It’s the individual factors within each member of a group that make or break a team. Factors such as motivation, personality and values are what influence other members of the group to achieve organisational goals. How the individual characteristics are utilised by each team member to achieve organisational success are the team dynamics. Whether or not they are helpful or harmful is a different story. Team members need to learn to not ‘put aside their differences’ and work, but to come together with each of their differences to form a better team. All teams have their initial complications, but learning about one another’s differences and overcoming them is what makes an effective team. Heterogeneous teams are more affective as they provide a comprehensive look on ideas; offer multiple outlooks on situations this is due to everybody’s diverse background and knowledge from their previous working role, age, gender, cultural background and experiences. Individually everyone possesses a sure amount of motivation to complete his or her work. Everybody wants to get their work done in time, finish tasks earlier then their deadlines, put in the extra effort to complete a goal, however individual motivation isn’t always present in times of need; where an employee can be feeling down and unenthusiastic about accomplishing a task and in this case where there is no one else relying on that person or pushing that person to complete that task it may not get done to their best of their ability or may not get done at all. This is when team motivation is more affective as the team member’s work interdependently off one another in their need to achieve common goals. The dangers of crowds are now so widely acknowledged that crowd behaviour and its management is considered just as much the concern of public safety as it is the realm of academia. The prevalence of reports of negative crowd behaviour may suggest that the media presents a distorted view of crowd behaviour; non-aggressive pro-social crowds do not result in such attention grabbing headlines. The lack of aggression evident in many everyday crowds, for example spectators of tennis matches illustrate that crowds are not fundamentally aggressive but incredibly diverse. To understand the nature of crowd behaviour is therefore to question the underlying assumption that a “mind of the crowd” even exists. Such an assumption suggests a hegemonic, mystified view of collective behaviour in which the role of the individual disappears. ...I was working with a child who began to display disruptive and anti-social behaviours randomly lashing out physically and verbally. To begin with I wanted to understand where this behaviour was stemming from, so I approached the child's parents in private to discuss my concerns. Initially the parents were not receptive of the fact that their child was in need of additional support and informed me that they were not concerned with their child's behaviour. They attributed the behaviour to 'boys being boys'. I persisted, taking detailed observations of the concerning behaviours exhibited by the child and used this as evidence to prove my case. I scheduled numerous meetings with the family around their availability, many outside of regular work hours. By being patient, respectful, understanding, genuine and sincere in all my interactions I was finally able to breakthrough and gain the families trust. Having gained their trust the parents confided in me that they were going through a separation due to some issues, working collaboratively we were than able to come to an agreement that the child’s wellbeing was in jeopardy and some support measures needed to be implemented. With open and honest communication we were able to devise a working action plan. Over the following weeks we took detailed observations of the strategies, changes and how effective they were.
