Structuring your Part A assignment:
Your Part A assignment should have three clear sections: 1. Introduction 2. Description 3. Conclusions

1. Introduction (Information):
Introduce the graph. What is the graph about? What information does it present? When was it published? By whom is it published? Where is it situated? What time period does it cover? What does it indicate/measure? (what units of measure etc) .

2. Description (Observation):
Describe the graph in relative detail (see example below), using business English vocabulary and terminology.
What do we mean by relative detail? As a rule thumb, if you were to read your description to someone on the phone they would be able to visualize your graph quite clearly!

Tip: Be sure to quantify!
When describing data expressed in graphs, your reference points are the actual changes in the graph behaviour or the ‘trends’. In other words, your focus is the duration and quantity of a particular movement in the graph line, until that movement changes, either increasing or decreasing in degree.

Hence, each movement or trend is best described by means of concise sentences, commencing with the ‘WHEN’ first followed by the “HOW MUCH’ and the ‘FOR HOW LONG’. This, however, is where the graph jargon comes into it for without the appropriate descriptive terminology we cannot describe graph behaviour, or indeed any trends, in a clear professional manner.

Graph A: Hotel X Occupancy Rate (OR) 201- 100 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 90 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 80 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 70 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 60 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |…...

Self Reflection on Business English

...Self Reflection on Business English This semester I took classes from my dear teacher Linda Wu, and enjoyed good times watching the exciting and entertaining reality show The Apprentice. As we all known, The Apprentice is an American reality show hosted by real estate magnate, businessman and television personality Donald Trump. The show often starts with 16 to 18 business people competing in an elimination competition. The final prize is a one-year, $250,000 starting contract to run one of Trump's companies. As a symbol of the show, each episode typically ends with Trump eliminating one of the contestants with the words, "You're fired". Different from the Celebrity Apprentice, The Apprentice 10 shows how the ordinary business men or women, who have been influenced by economic crisis, competed with each other in every challenging project. The biggest change is to the rewards—unlike the often lavish rewards that had been granted in prior seasons to the winning teams, in this season, the winning Project Managers are rewarded with one-on-one meetings with some of America's best-known business leaders and CEOs. However since the season received the lowest audience figures of any Apprentice season, Mr. Trump confirmed that this format would be permanently discontinued after this season, and that all future seasons of the show would be in the Celebrity Apprentice format. In my opinion, this season’s conflicts between all the participants were much fiercer than the past seasons...

Potential Islamic Certificates

...tenPOTENTIAL ISLAMIC CERTIFICATES FOR RESOURCE MOBILIZATION MOHAMED EL-HENNAWI* 1. INTRODUCTION The development of financial instruments has become an essential ingredient for the economic development of Islamic countries, most of which are underdeveloped. The absence of these instruments, together with the problem of limited resources and skills which are necessary to cope with the growing investment needs, tends to hinder the development process of these countries. Islamic countries need to stimulate higher domestic savings rates and to efficiently channel the savings into productive investments, as a precondition for accelerating economic growth. This calls for the development of relatively advanced financial markets with all the relevant components, such as new financial institutions, securities markets, etc. Islamic banks, national and international, have recently come into existence to play an important intermediary role in pooling savings, especially from small investors, and channelling them into productive investments. This role has been constrained, to a great extent, by the absence of capital markets and financial instruments based on shari'ah. Islamic banks, therefore, have embarked on a serious effort to develop their own instruments for mobilizing the funds of the Islamic Ummah and using them to foster economic and social development of the ummah. To be more specific, some of these banks suffer from excess liquidity, for which no suitable......
