Having Women involved in law enforcement is a positive and much needed thing regardless of race. In 2004 the US. Department of justice conducted a census whereas it was found that females represented only 16 percent of all employed federal law enforcement (Stange, 2011, p. 831). However, it was found that one-third of these female officers were ethnic minorities, with Hispanics ranking highest at 33 percent. Excluding both state and local level personnel from what I understand wasn’t reported or withheld. Earlier study’s is said to show that females represent 13 percent of state and local law enforcement personnel, with women of color representing about 5 percent of those positions (womenandpolicing.org/pdf/2002, equality denied, 2001).

A department with diversity is ideal because it demonstrates and reflects equal opportunity employment and gives individuals in society fare chance of employment. Diversity in ethnicity in law enforcement gives off a positive image to our youth it gives them vision and hope that they too can partake in a rewarding career and amount to something great. One of the advantages female officers have is that they can frisk another female without worry whereas male officers don’t have that advantage and also a female officer can be far more persuasive and effective under cover whereas a male officer would be more noticeable in that situation.

I think it’s possible that women can achieve the equality that’s desired it’s just going to take persistence dedication and hard work and will also take more women applying for position and sticking with it without giving up. Equality and recognition can also be achieved by performing their duties on the same level if not much higher than the male officers. Eventually these officers will be recognized within the organization by strength in numbers and for their unique talents and abilities. At that point it then can’t be denied that woman officers serve a significant importants.

... History of Prisons Auriel LaCour CJA/234 January 31, 2013 Professor Donald Savell History of Punishment All countries have a justice system and correction facility in place for those convicted of crimes and who are threats to society. Cultures and nations have made laws to protect their native citizens from crime over the years these laws have been in enforced maintain civilization in a peaceful and orderly fashion. Punishments were developed in many different forms and were being used to detour criminals however many citizens still were inclined to break the law. The death penalty is common in many regions for extreme crimes. Jails or bastille’s are meant to be for citizens awaiting trial and those convicted of misdemeanor crimes. Jails are normally run by local officials or county sheriff’s departments. Prior to the architecture of accessories accurately advised for apprehension and correctional confinement, trials and punishments were abrupt on the American frontier. Which caused bands to be placed on methods thought to be humiliating and as such happened many states had different logic, beliefs, or moral standards so each created their own legal system. Many people felt the laws were a safe haven and that it protected them. The systems created jobs such as sheriffs, judges, and lawyers. The notion of living with the law made life more civilized as time progressed. The justice system grew to be a major part in society as it developed. Jails had fewer amenities as......

...Police is a very important job. When a police officer does something like beating or just not treating a civilian with respect it make the community think if they are really save. Unethical police officer can affect how the ethical police officer is treated. Police corruption has always existed and most likely will always exist. As well as misconduct, police officers are not always perfect and sometime misbehave because of the stress of their jobs. There are many ways that a person can define police corruptions. Herman Goldstein defined police corruptions as “acts involving the misuse of authority by a police officer in a manner designed to produce personal gain for himself or for others” (Washington DC: The Police Foundation, 1975, p. 3). Police corruptions has two key elements, one is the misuse of authority, the second to personal gain. A gratuity is a type of corruption that police are involved in. Gratuities are the type of corruption in which an officer will receive something free or a discount on purchases. Amazingly there are some police departments that prohibit gratuities and there are others that do not prohibit it. Another type of police corruption is police receiving bribes. An example of bribe is, when a police officer receives money for not giving a traffic ticket. Theft and burglary is yet another type of police corruption. Brutality and corruption is an important issue. An example of brutality and corruption is, when officers would beat and steal drugs......

...and rehabilitate criminals. State prisons have a minimum and maximum security prisons which are divided based on the severity of the crime. Municipal prison is a high security prison. Military prison is operated by the military and is used to house prisoners of war, enemy combatants, those whose freedom is deemed a national security risk by the military or national authority and member of the military found guilty of a serious crime. (Department of Corrections WA State", 2012) Differences between jail and prisons: Although many people consider jail and prison the same thing but there are many differences the public should be aware of. For example, Ellisville county jail typically only holds people anywhere from a few hours to a week. This jail usually holds a person who is awaiting trial or your typical DUI case or drunk who needs a little time to sober up. On top of having a “drunk tank”, St. Louis county jail holds convicts who received up to a one year sentence, while the Boonville Correctional Facility has inmates sentenced anywhere from a couple of years to life. Jails generally do not offer any type of work or treatment programs like prisons have. Prisons have far more staff and security than jails; the Ellisville county jail generally has 12 to 15 officers on duty, while a prison may have 50 to 100 staff members working at any time. (Pearson Prentice Hall, 2009) Aspects about jail and prison culture and subculture: Prison culture is far rougher......

...Melinda Winters Criminal Procedure – Probable Cause Article Summary Cja/364 University Of Phoenix Professor Timijanel Boyd Odom November 14, 2013 In a recent article in the Las Vegas Sun the Nevada police routinely track cell phone users without a warrant. According to "Las Vegas Sun" (2013), "Nevada law enforcement agencies have tracked the movements of citizens through their cellphones, sometimes without obtaining proper court approval, according to court records and documents obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada”. Last year a judged ruled that the Las Vegas police had improperly obtained the location of a murder suspect from his cell phone but allowed evidence gathered from the illegal tracking to be used at court ("Las Vegas Sun", 2013). Two police departments in Las Vegas routinely use cell phone records to track people involved in investigations and rarely without warrants. This act has become standard some obtain warrants but majority of the time they disregard. According to "Las Vegas Sun" (2013), "The Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution prohibits unreasonable searches by government. To obtain a search warrant, authorities have been required to show a judge enough evidence to establish probable cause”. Law enforcement agencies all over the country have been using cell phone tracking to investigate cases but have been keeping it a secret. The requirement for search and arrest warrants is that in order to be obtained the police must......

He guns his engine, turns the wheel, hits the divider—and then jumps to the opposite sidewalk, going diagonally across the street against traffic.
