1. One problem with DIA’s baggage system was inadequate testing. Why is testing important to a project’s success? Why do so many projects decide to skip testing?
Testing helps solve any intermittent issues that were overlooked, or unable to be seen, in the design phase of a project. Such with the power supply issue, testing would have allowed DIA to see and correct this issue, and the same goes with the optical sensors. Projects skip testing for a number of reasons, ranging from timelines that businesses push upon the developers, non-sufficient funds to support the prolong testing needed, or even cockiness from the developers thinking their product doesn’t need to be tested.

2. Evaluate the different systems development methodologies. Which one would have most significantly increased the chances of the project’s success?
The Waterfall Methodology would have significantly increased the chances of DIA’s baggage system being successful. With each phase pouring into the next, you would been able to adjust for the changes in early stages that became disastrous in the end.

3. How could more time spent in the analysis and design phase have saved Colorado taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars?
By allowing for additional analysis and more complete design without last minute changes, DIA could have opened on time or a sizeable amount sooner, saving the Colorado taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.

4. Why could BAE not take an existing IT infrastructure and simply increase its scale and expect it to work?
BAE has never fathomed that their small system in Munich, Germany would have to be scaled up to these proportions. The IT infrastructure could not handle the load due to its design being for a much smaller…...

Migrasi Di Malaysia

Fonderia Di Torino S.P.A.

...Fonderia DI Torino S.P.A. Teaching Note Synopsis and Objectives The managing director of this specialty foundry must decide whether to approve a major investment to automate part of her plant’s production process. The case presents information sufficient to build cash-flow forecasts of production costs incremental to this investment. Discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis reveals that this investment project is attractive but that the benefits hinge on important assumptions about the plant’s business volume, the manager’s ability to lay off workers over the objections of a labor union, and the hurdle rate. The case may be used for the following: • Introduce students to mechanics of DCF analysis of go/no-go capital-investment decisions. • Consider the principle of incremental analysis as the foundation for identifying relevant cash flows for a project. • Explore the classic tradeoffs in capital-for-labor investment. • Review the analytical adjustments that are required to compare projects of unequal lives. Suggested Questions for Advance Assignment to Students 1. Please assess the economic benefits of acquiring the Vulcan Mold-Maker machine. What is the initial outlay? What are the benefits over time? What is an appropriate discount rate? Does the net present value (NPV) warrant the investment in the machine? 2. What uncertainties or qualitative considerations might influence your recommendation? How, if at all, would...

Appunti Di Economia Industriale

...Discussion Question 3 The Social Bond Theory along with the Self Control Theory both help explain why crimes and deviant behavior occur. They both do so in there own way explaining why youth get involved in criminal behavior. The Social Bond Theory is also known as the social control theory; it is the belief that forming personal relationships is the most important part of human development. These personal relationships that are formed keep the youth from committing crimes or other deviant behavior. These personal relationships can be with family, school, church, government, and within the community. The Self Control Theory explains why the majority of people choose not to participate or become involved in criminal behavior. Throughout the theory it explains how people with a high level of self-control are going to be considerably less likely to participate in criminal behavior and how if you have a low level of self control you are more likely to become involved in criminal behavior. With these two theories they talk about acts of delinquency and what might affect them but the two theories them selves contradict themselves because if you are not in a certain group you may believe that you have a sense of self control and believe that you don’t need others in your life. Even with the belief that you have self-control you may still act out because you don’t have a social bond with anyone or any group. I agree with the Social bond theory more because In my......

Perbudakan Di Era Modern

Cintaku Di Klia!

...Cintaku Di KLIA! Oleh : Liya Zafrina “Mira, akak dah on the way ni.” “On the way kat airport lagi kan?” Selamba adik aku mengutuk dalam diam. Aku tersengih. “Yup. Sorry... terlupa nak ambik flight yang lagi awal.” Sengaja aku bagi alasan lapuk. Memang tu jelah alasan aku setiap kali adik aku si Mira ni bertempik suruh jumpa dia dekat Sabah tu. “Eleh... eleh. Tak payah nak tipu Mira la... Dah kenal sangat perangai akak. Nanti dah sampai, inform Mira. I’ll pick you up.” “Okay. Akak letak phone dulu. Nak boarding dah ni.” Aku baru je nak tekan butang off bila Mira tiba-tiba menjerit. “Apa dia?” Tanya aku sambil memasukkan komik yang aku baru beli dalam beg sandang hitam kesayanganku. “Akak masih pakai beg sandang warna hitam kesayangan akak tu, baju kemeja warna merah yang akak pakai setiap kali nak naik flight dengan tudung bawal hitam bunga putih comel-comel tu ke? And not to forget, sandal?” Aku membelek tubuh sendiri. Adik aku memang sangat-sangat mengenali kakaknya ni. Memang apa yang dia cakap tu betul. Adakah aku patut berbangga atau bersedih sekarang ni? Nampak sangat apa yang aku pakai ni klise. Klise sebab aku malas nak fikir pasal baju apa yang aku kena pakai. Malas nak buat pembaharuan. Ahh..alasan semata-mata! “Yes.” “Bab beg tu Mira tak kisah sangat tapi baju tu? Aku menarik nafas. “Adikku sayang... memang dah trademark akak kena pakai baju ni......

...if the codes are mixed length. If codes produce 2 digit or 3 digit answers, how do you know where to separate them for decoding. One way is to make all codes 3 digits by adding multiples of 26. The letters work best when using modulo arithmetic putting a=0, b=1, c=2, etc. When decoding we can use the modulo arithmetic to get our codes back. Explain how this works for example in 8. It is better to change all 2 digit numbers to 3 digit numbers as it would make it easier to the receiver to separate the long message. If a message was composed of both 2 digit and 3 digit numbers, the receiver would not know where to separate the message if it is sent as numbers. So it would make it difficult for the decipherer to decode the message. Using question 8 as an example: MATHS IS FUNNY When encoded, the message will display: 161 1449 2435 223 1875 2298 214 1886 2911 301 2622 3844 In this example there are no 2 digit numbers, but instead there are 4 digit numbers. But this can also make it difficult for the receiver t o decipher the codes. The message would look like this: 1611449243522318752298214 1886291130126223844 In this form, it would be difficult to determine if these numbers were 3 digit or 4 digit numbers. Therefore, to have 3 digit numbers you subtract multiples of 26. It would make it easier for the decipherer to read the message, knowing that the message is divided into groups of three......
