It’s Only Me

The article ”It’s Only Me” is written by Nancy Gibbs in April 7th 2008. Nancy Gibbs wrote this article because of the school shootings in the US. The boy Charles Andrew Williams shot at his school in Santee, California and the surrender in the boy’s locker room. His last sentence was “it’s only me” and is just a hint for the police to not search for any other possible backer. Nancy Gibbs writes “no it’s not only you” because she points at the other 16 kids who were inspired by Williams and made the same kind of shooting at schools in the 48 hours after Williams’ shooting at the school in Santee, California.
Nancy Gibbs is controversial about the fact that any boy, girl, man or woman can go to the local arms dealer and buy the biggest handgun you can look in the showcase. You have to be registered in the arms dealer, but in some cases it is seen before the buyers just went down and bought the weapon without any problems and then went home as all the other American citizens. If you want any problem solved do it yourself then. You can easily handle those sorts of problems on your own hand in the US. They are allowed to have weapons in their car or house in case of any protection is needed. Unfortunately this is being taken advantage of in many cases instead. Indirectly Williams has inspired the other 16 kids to do school shootings because of his lack of anger management. This is going too far and can easily happen in the future because of the US’ weapon law. If everybody is armed with weapon you are not safer than if everybody did not wear weapons. In these cases it just makes it more difficult to get into a situation like this again.
In Finland this problem is appearing too. They have almost the same weapon law as the US. They have also been witnessing school shootings because of the quick and easy way to get a deadly weapon. This problem is not an…...

It's Not a Toy

...It’s Not a Toy Message This commercial has only one clear message - that the BlackBerry smartphone is not a toy. The underlying message that I see is that RIM is telling the consumers that the BlackBerry smartphone is not what their competitors’ phones are - toys. There is no actual reference to Apple or Android or any other competitor, but the fact that their message “It’s not a toy” is repeated 3 times in their 29 second commercial and thing that is said, it is obvious to me what the unspoken message is. Communications strategy I believe that the maker of this commercial was trying to appeal to the humorous side in their choice to open up with the Jack in the Box toy and end with the very colorful xylophone. At the same time, I also felt that RIM wanted the reach both the consumers’ logical side and emotional side. When I see this commercial, as a BlackBerry smartphone user, I see that RIM’s phones are logical and for the more mature adult user. I also see that it reaches out to me emotionally and how I feel about their phone. I love their phone and the fact that it is not a “toy” is one of the things I personally like about the phone. I feel like consumers who want to play games and play around with applications all day long, can be happy with the “toy” smartphone that Apple and other competitors offer. I know that I want the BlackBerry phone to be the one that is set apart from the rest, for the serious business person, but that can also provide “fun” for...

Torment – En pinsel Threat - Trussel Cruel - Grusom Pity – Medlidenhed Shorthand - Kodeudtryk Taunt - Håne Tor’mentor - Plageånd Frisk – Kropsvisitere Target - Skydeskive Ne’glegt -Forsømme Threaten - True Pattern - Mønster Taunt - Hån Negligent - Forsømmelig Cruelty - Grusomhed Tor’ment – At pine Agony – Smerte 1. It’s only me. Two ways to understand it. It can mean that he is lonely, and it can also mean the way they talk about it in the story that’s it is only him that has those problems. Problems like bully, drugs, bad childhood and neglect from his parents. He might think it is only him who got those problems but it isn’t. 2. First we hear about an 11-year old boy that threatened to kill the girl he liked and the boy who kissed her which is jealousy. Jealousy is very often the reason for murder. He told the police that he was just joking. Another 11-year old threatened to shoot his teachers tape player, and then the teacher. He didn’t like the music. Elizabeth Bush, who wanted to become a human rights activist or a nun, shot the head-cheerleader in the cafeteria. She did it to prove the other that she could do it. 3. One reason could be that the parents think that their children wouldn’t do such a horrible thing. The parents often choose to overlook the problems, and look the other way. The parents often don’t know when the children got problems. The school doesn’t notify the parents if anything is wrong. ...

Nice way to start a blog, right? So you may know, (or not) I was on a 'get healthy" kick in the fall. I quit eating wheat, and started eating more fruit and healthy proteins and blah blah blah (oh, I was still drinking, fear not...) and then around the beginning of November, I noticed that I was having distorted hearing and a ringing in my left ear. I truly thought it was a cold or something, and so I let it just work itself out for a few weeks. By the end of the month, I was ready to see some health care professionals. I called my doc, who gave me (reluctantly) a referral to an ENT for December. She wanted me to wait two more weeks, but I told her that by the time I got the referral and made an appointment, it would already be two weeks, and if my ear was better by then, no harm, no foul...right? I also believe in alternative medicine, so in early December, I saw my chiropractor, my acupuncturist, and the big guns, the ENT. My chiro said I had a systemic yeast infection, and put me on a Candida diet for months. Over the course of four months, I saw him 12 times. I was cracked, adjusted, lasered, chanted to, and given lots of vitamins and herbs. The treatments and the diet made no difference in my hearing or the ringing. I had a total of three acupuncture treatments over the course of three months, to clear up congestion and bought lots of herbal stuff. The acupuncturist poked me in the head, the hands, the face, and the feet. My......

Sociology and It's Relevance to Me

...sociology in the social world was Auguste Comte; his method of practice was called positivism which states that “the theory that knowledge can be acquired only through direct observation and experimentation, and not through metaphysics or theology.” Another major contributor to sociology was Herbert Spencer; he was credited in finding the Science as a field of study. Spencer came up with the idea of Social Darwinism which implies “people would gravitate to either the bottom or the top of society…the principle was termed “survival of the fittest.”” Karl Marx also played a huge part of early Sociology. Marx was a social activist who came up with the theory of class conflict, which says that; “the lower and higher classes will always clash due to their different position in society.” The study of Sociology was not firmly established in North America until the early 1900’s. The first University to accept Sociology as a department was the University of Kansas in 1890 followed by the University of Chicago in 1892. The major areas of Sociology includes conformity and deviance; crime, delinquency, racial, ethnic, and gender relations; the implications of social class, marriage and family life; education, religion, the health care system; economic, political and social change. The study of Sociology has brought a change or has made me see life differently; the study of Sociology helps you make sense of the world around us and the events that occur. The study of Sociology has......

It's Ok

...to terrorism. This is, of course, a dangerous stereotype because it could cause some to want to do harm to innocent Muslims. I don’t understand why people are so uptight about most stereotypes, though. Most stereotypes are funny, and true. I mean, so what if Asians can’t drive. It’s not their fault. Perhaps it’s a genetic trait engrained into their DNA that disables their hand eye cordination. If that’s the case, I don’t know how they could be so good at kung fu. I guess it’s just one of those questions that may never be answered, but it’s Ok. Why get mad because others can do things that you can’t? Men can’t have babies, but you don’t see me getting all upset when someone brings that to my attention. And so what if white people can’t dance. I don’t see us getting together and starting another civil rights movement if the local news channel does a story on the statistics of the lack of rhythm among the white community. Some stereotypes actually transcend the racial bouderies. Some still take them offensively, though, as if they are negative comments about them personally. Some black folks have become very insecure about ordering chicken when they go into a restaurant with their white friends. It’s not like everyone in the kitchen are secretly laughing behind their back as if they were not expecting a black person to order chicken. I love chicken, too. I don’t know a white person who doesn’t. There’s nothing wrong with eating chicken. Chicken could actually be an......

To Most People, It's Only a Job

...Realize: To Most People, It’s Only a Job Colleagues who have worked closely with me would describe my attitude as friendly, respectful, cooperative, loyal, caring and ready to help out, always putting forth the extra effort. I thoroughly enjoyed my last job and the relationships I formed were invaluable. I know they would describe me as a positive influence to be around and one with a charismatic instinct. I took pleasure in having fun at work telling jokes or sharing stories. They would describe my attitude toward personal life as one that values friendship, family, social and physical activities. My employees know I cared for them professionally and personally. I tried to have as much fun inside work as I did outside. I believe one of the major keys to happiness and well-being is having a good work/life relationship. In Walt’s instance, his employees would describe his attitude towards work of one that is inflexible, unprincipled, has very high standards, but motivated and results oriented. He was a successful manager and it proved to be that way, but his demands were extremely high. His work expectations were not the same as his employees. In some instances, his practices and behavior didn’t act in accordance with moral principles. His employee’s weren’t enjoying work or being acknowledged for their work. In some respects, Walt was too self indulged and only cared about his own desires. For Walt, there wasn’t much time for a personal life or a real work/life balance.......

Hey! It's Me.

...product of that noble event. Here I am again to answer this kind of question confronting my whole personality. Before, as I spent my time with the counselors, I was asked with the same question. To be honest, it's really hard to know one self but it is necessary. For you to know others know yourself. To understand others understand yourself. But it takes time to accomplish because you need to know everything with in you, accept it, and learn with it. I am Kestrel. Behind this name, I am who's on the process and still not perfectly molded as well-rounded individual. I am who look forward towards my goal, is a person with dark spots and discouragement. I am adventurous and I love to discover unusual things but I am afraid of what I don't know. I am important but I am unknown. If I were to put my self on the field, I am a farmer plowing my own lifeless stalks. I had with me this attitude, willing to take the challenge but afraid. Maybe or really I am just low self-esteemed. It is easy to say that I am kind, I am affectionate, I am honest, I am positive. The hardest thing there is to accept that behind those sunny aspects of mine, I am still facing the mirror of darkness and I don't know how to conquer it. This is me. I am positive but my negative side is pulling me down to failure. I always put into my mind that I must think hopefully, speak hopefully, and act hopefully. Those that I mention are true to myself but I am trying to go beyond embracing the hope as my......

...throughout its duration, which would have varied in intensity and duration based on the amount of NaOH we used * Controlled Variables * Light-- by enclosing the reaction in darkness, we prevented any possible reaction between our reactants (NaOH and HCl) and the light. If light can react in the photosynthesis reaction, I’m taking no chances. * Surrounding Temperature-- by having the reaction take place in an insulated Styrofoam-esque cup, we prevented as much heat from escaping the as we prevented from entering the system; the temperature of the cup wouldn’t skew our results. * Atmospheric Pressure-- While we didn’t actually control it ourselves, by carrying out the reaction in a building very close to ground level, it’s safe to say that the atmospheric pressure was constant enough. * Concentration of HCl-- We used a specific concentration of HCl (a 3 molar solution), ensuring that our final numbers would account for concentration. It's Hard Enough Being Me Essay

...October 15, 2015 Intermediate English Prof. Aponte Ingl. 3103-102 It’s Hard Enough Being Me The essay, “It’s hard enough being me”, by Anna Lisa Raya is about her experience when she went off to New York for college and she had to label herself as “Latina”. Anna Lisa explains that her dad was a second-generation Mexican, born and raised in Los Angeles, and her mom was born in Puerto Rico and raised in California. Raya herself was born and raised in Los Angeles in a Mexican neighborhood where she defined herself as Mexican. Only when she was with her grandmother and aunt from her mother’s side, she defined herself as Puerto Rican. When she went off to college, she had to answer what race she was and she had to pick “Latina”. She explains that it was the first time she had to think of that and put a label. She was confused because she did not have the physical aspects of a Latina, she did not know Mexico’s history or Puerto Rico’s, nor she knew how to speak Spanish. She felt like she did not have the “requirements” to be labeled as Latina but she couldn’t be labeled as an American because then she would be a “spic” (to Americans) or a “sell-out” (to Latinos). That thought bothered her until someone advised her that she had to be true to herself and not worry about what others think, and that she had to satisfy herself and not others. Raya finishes her essay by stating “Soy yo and no one else. Punto”; I am myself and no one else. That advice made her......

Don’t worry I will be there though you making me fastened and lice. Remember me! Begging you to please give me chance Airielle. “ >>>>>Austine Curl Xiu The reason why people hated to be with someone is that, they cannot find themselves a private way to express their own emotions and expressions. Other people might says, “Better to be with someone who will make you happy”, what if the reason why you prefer to be alone is that someone who you want to be with is always ignoring you when you need his help or let say his affection and belongingness is not unto you. What if every time you go for, is just like you’re a wind and crap to that person? How can you stay and find time to reassure that he will give you more time to talk with your problems or flaws either? How should you see yourself to be trapped and when you fall asleep the only thing you can imagine is your already dead without knowing and feel it? Me, Me Me

...In January 2008 a British journalist, Sarfraz Manzoor, wrote an article with the title “Me, Me, Me” that appeared in the magazine “Esquire”. He gives his opinion on how the phenomenon “New Narcissism” has its influences on today’s society through the Internet. And he leaves us with the impression that there is a reason to be worried about today's youth being more narcissistic than ever before. Narcissism is not new for us. New Narcissism is a modern version of the phenomenon narcissism. And it has been known since ancient Greece with the Greek myth about Narcissus that fell in love with his own reflection in the water. The man that got narcissism recognized as a medical condition was Sigmund Freud (l. 53). But in our age, the word, narcissism, does not seem that serious and is mostly defined as a phenomenon. This New Narcissism has come to life because society reproduces itself (l. 59). And growing numbers of people are more narcissistic according to a study performed by psychologists. Sarfraz Manzoor, who has written this article, describes that New Narcissism is the offspring of today’s society. He makes an example by including a person named Chris Crocker. Crocker became famous because he put a video on the Internet where he defended the celebrity Britney Spears. There can be two reasons for his behaviour. Is he doing this to tell people that they shall back off and because he is fond of her? Or is he doing this to get attention? But it does not seem as if Britney is......

It's Not About Me Anymore

...Topic: clothes shopping before kids vs. clothes shopping after kids Controlling idea: it’s all about me/it’s all about them Points: appearance, frequency, experience Format: Introduction I. Appearance a. Before kids b. After kids II. Frequency c. Before kids d. After kids III. Experience e. Before kids f. After kids Conclusion It’s Not About Me Anymore My experience with clothes shopping changed seemingly overnight. One day I’m thrilled to find myself at a mall, the next day I dread going to any place that sells clothes. What was the reason for this sudden change? I married a man who already had two children; Kevin was seven and Haylie was five when I met their father. I became a mother, overnight, to two rapidly growing children. What I knew as shopping was no more. Before I became a mother, I loved going to the mall. I would spend hours getting myself all dolled up; who knew whom I might bump into. I made sure I looked perfect; my belt matched my shoes and my shoes matched my purse. My stylishly coifed hair glistened in the sunlight. After Kevin and Haylie came into my life, the sunlight never got to see my stylishly coifed hair. Instead, my tresses never saw the outside of a bun. The time that used to go towards my own appearance was now directed toward my children. I had to make sure the little ones were appropriately dressed for the weather. The same amount of time was taken to get ready; the......
