Crystal

...Analysis Crystal is the main character in my book, she is somewhat shy but when she gets in front of the camera she turns into a different person, she says her modeling career is just something she does to bring extra money into her household but her mother wants her to model so she can relive her childhood dreams through Crystal. The fact that Crystal models to bring money to her household shows maturity, and that she is very responsible to be a 16 year old. Modeling was not Crystal's only strong point, she was also a great writer, she wrote articles in her school's magazine which is "The Caliper". At the beginning of the novel she was a nice, dainty preacher's daughter with strong morals. She is also drop dead gorgeous and this is the reason she pursued modeling. Her changing for the worse started when her grades in school started to drop because of her modeling sessions and practices, another factor in her transformation was meeting a model that was not much older than her that had a great influence on her, her name is Rowena. Crystal also loves to joke around and is very fun loving and has a positive attitude about most things , but also has a smart mouth and is very snappy. The point in the story where Crystal does a complete 180 is when her closest friend in the modeling world, Rowena, dies which makes her rethink her whole career and makes her wonder is it really worth it, this is where she changed for the better overall....

...DIFFERENT TYPES OF DISPLAYS 1. Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT) Technology This technology has been in use for more than 100 years, and is found in most televisions and computer monitors. Beams of electrons, from an electron gun are projected towards the fluorescent screen, within a vacuum, and each time it hits the screen, a phosphor dot lights up inside the glass tube, and thus illuminating active protons of the screen. Repetitions through the screen form a complete image. The image colour depends on the intensity of the three beams of RED, BLUE and Green. The screen is usually made of thick glass to prevent the emitting of x-rays to the environment. The tube has high stress due to the presence of the vacuum which can cause an explosion if the outer glass was to break. These types of screens are very hard to recycle because they have high concentration of lead and phosphors 2. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Technology This technology uses the light modulating properties of liquid crystals. This display uses two sheets of polarizing material with a liquid crystal solution between them (thus the name liquid crystal display). An electric current passed through the liquid causes the crystals to align so that light cannot pass through them, acting like a filter. The screen is then put in front of a light source in order to produce images. Rhombus Is cooling liquid salol a 100% effective way to cause solidification? No, it is not. Procedure: 1) Obtain a slide of solid salol, two magnifying glasses, and a match book. 2) Use a magnifying glass to look at the crystal and describe what you see. 3) Scratch off some of the crystal from the smaller side and save it on your desk. 4) Light a match and heat the bigger crystal side and time how many seconds it takes for the crystal to reach its melting point. 5) Let the melted crystal cool to room temperature and see if it has solidified. 6) Add a small piece of the crystal you previously scratch off onto the desk, and put it into the cooled crystal. 7) After you watch the crystal solidify again, heat the crystal up again. 8) This time, add a piece of lead, paper, or a piece of the match, and see if the solution solidifies. Observation: The crystal is flaky, shiny, and white. It is lumpy in some parts and flat in others. The crystals are in a shape of a rhombus. It took about 7 seconds for the crystal to melt. After adding the lead to the crystal, the lead did nothing. It did not re-solidify the crystal. Conclusions: After melting the crystal, the crystal does not solidify at room temperature. Its production is inexpensive, and the drug can be fabricated in a home-made laboratory, as is often the case. • Cheap - A real ‘bang for your buck’, crystal meth is as inexpensive to make as it is in relation to the length and strength of the high. Users can be stoned from 6 to 10 hours, experiencing an exhilarated state of mind. ...Crystals While doing research on my project I found out a lot of things about crystals. I found out that crystals are solids that form by a regular repeated pattern of molecules connecting together. The salt in the kitchen, the snow, and the diamond in a ring are all crystals. The word crystal comes from a Greek word”krysos” which means “ice cold”. It was believed that crystals were a type of ice that was so cold it never melts. Crystals can form in a lot of different shapes. The shapes range from cubes, hexagons, double pyramids to name a few. My crystal shaped into a sphere but usually they are symmetrical from one side to other, but many types of crystals are not. The shape of the crystal is determined by the chemical components inside the crystal and the chemical bonds between the atoms and molecules. The atoms in smallest building block of a crystal are called a “Unit Cell” The atoms in each unit cell are held together by electrical forces or bonds. When a lot of unit cells are near each other they arrange themselves in different patterns. They attract one another in some directions more than others. This pattern gives the crystal their shape with symmetrical surfaces called facets. Crystals also comes in many different colors, from clear diamonds, to red rubies, to blue sapphires and more they get there color from the materials that make up the crystals.
