Hybrid Bus Fact Sheet
The region’s first biodiesel, electric buses will operate on area roads beginning summer 2010. Six new 40-foot Intercity Transit coaches

Intercity Transit

with a green “bubble” top will operate on a planet-friendly mix of biodiesel, ultra-low sulfur diesel, and electricity. The buses, funded largely with federal stimulus funds, will replace 14-year-old buses.
What are the benefits of hybrid buses? Hybrid buses: • Significantly reduce emissions that cause smog, greenhouse gases, and public health issues, • Reduce fuel consumption about 25 %, • Require less maintenance, • Reduce diesel exhaust odor, vehicle noise, and • Have same operating reliability as traditional propulsion engine buses. How does the hybrid bus work? • Diesel-electric hybrid buses use both electricity and diesel, the same concept as hybrid automobiles. • Bus Batteries store energy and recharge when the bus decelerates. When demand for power exceeds battery capacity, the diesel engine provides extra energy. • The stored electricity is used for a cleaner and smoother propulsion. • A computer controls the output of the two power sources, diesel and electricity, so the buses always use the most efficient source. How were these buses paid for? Most of the cost was paid with federal funding. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds accounted for $2.33 million, $750,669 came from other federal funds, and $575,000 from Intercity Transit (local match). What do hybrid buses cost? Each bus cost $579,000 (excluding tax), or $3.7 million for all six (includes tax).

...than I have been given by you. I love you, too. These violent delights have violent ends And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, Which, as they kiss, consume. Romeo and Juliet, Act II, Scene VI PREFACE I FELT LIKE I WAS TRAPPED IN ONE OF THOSE TERRIFYING nightmares, the one where you have to run, run till your lungs burst, but you can't make your body move fast enough. My legs seemed to move slower and slower as I fought my way through the callous crowd, but the hands on the huge clock tower didn't slow. With relentless, uncaring force, they turned inexorably toward the end–the end of everything. But this was no dream, and, unlike the nightmare, I wasn't running for my life; I was racing to save something infinitely more precious. My own life meant little to me today. Alice had said there was a good chance we would both die here. Perhaps the outcome would be different if she weren't trapped by the brilliant sunlight; only I was free to run across this bright, crowded square. And I couldn't run fast enough. So it didn't matter to me that we were surrounded by our extraordinarily dangerous enemies. As the clock began to toll out the hour, vibrating under the soles of my sluggish feet, I knew I was too late–and I was glad something bloodthirsty waited in the wings. For in failing at this, I forfeited any desire to live. The clock tolled again, and the sun beat down from the exact center point of the sky. 1. ...My name is Karina. I was born and raised in the beautiful country of Kazahstan, which is located in the Central Asia and was the part of the former Soviet Union. I finished High School there and attended four-year college for about two years. I was majoring in Customs Law, but I didn't finish it, because my mother won a lottery Green-card (permanent residence in USA) and we decided to move to America. I have only one older brother. His name is Ulan. Hi is 30 years old. We are very close to each other, although he is four years older than I am. Unfortunately, he is not here with us right know, because according to the US law, children over 21 years old are not eligible for the green- card, so he stayed in Kazahstan. My father died a year ago of stroke. He was just 54 years old. I still can not believe that he is gone. I still miss him and he will always be in my heart. I and my mother came to the United States four years ago. We live together in Brooklyn. She is very strong and good person. She is the one who influenced me to go to the college. English is not my first language, so I was afraid that I wouldn't do well at school. She kept saying to me that I'll do well and that she believes in me. And here I'm at the LaGuardia Community College today, majoring in Paralegal studies. This is my third semester here. Now I feel more confident about myself, because I passed all courses that I have been taking and received good grades and try to do my best to keep doing it. I'm a......

...years to create who I am today. Within these years, I have been given the freedom to explore the world in order to satisfy my curiosity toward all the strange and wonderful things in the world around me. I grew up in a healthy family. I had an elder sister and a younger brother and this made my childhood days more colorful. My parents both had stable careers and this provided us with more opportunities to learn what we desired to. I remember when I was a young boy; my parents bought us a piano. I have been exploring music ever since my sister started taking piano lessons. This affected me so much that I insisted to my parents that I also wanted to learn piano. So I started my musical journey and continue it to this day. I finally completed my grade eight piano with a merit. After all the hardship I went through, success was finally shown in my result. I did not end my music after I went to secondary school. There, I joined the Chinese Orchestra Society. My purpose in joining this society was to learn more about my own traditional culture's music. I took a position in strings and my musical instrument is named "erhu". It is a traditional Chinese musical instrument similar to the violin. Instead of having 4 strings, an erhu only has two strings which can also produce beautiful musical notes as a violin does. I absolutely love the erhu and I have discovered that with the my background in piano, I am learning with tremendous speed. My teacher said that I am bestowed with......

Me Myself and I

...Me, Myself & I By Andrea Bridglal Everyone is born into this world innocent. How you live your life, day by day, the decisions you make, now that’s what really affects you. Sometimes, it might not always be your fault. There are people who will always try to bring you down. They’ll try to hurt you. There will always be someone to tell you that you aren’t good enough. If you let it affect you, now that’s on you. That was my mistake. Growing up in New York City, with a single parent, isn’t the most difficult thing in the world, but it sure isn’t that easy. My parents have been divorced since I was three and I never really had any kind of relationship with my dad. He’s an alcoholic and growing up, I realized I would never have the bond that I wanted to have with him. Unfortunately, it took me way to long to realize that. Instead, I pushed away the people who did care and those who did try to be there for me; my grandparents, my uncle, and most importantly, my mom. I felt like I was alone even though I wasn’t. Not only did I push people away, I found it very difficult to let people in. On top of that, I was different. I come from a West Indian, Islamic background and growing up as a minority made it even harder to make friends. September 11, 2001 changed my life completely. No, I didn’t lose a loved one but I did lose something with equal value, self respect. My self-esteem was shot at 7 years old. I became ashamed of who I am, the color of my skin, the texture of...

...Styles After taking the LSI (Life Styles Inventory) survey, I noticed certain things about my personality and my thinking styles. Certain styles rated higher than others, but there were a few that stayed constant. The two longest style extensions have the greatest influence on my behavior, and are called your primary and backup styles. Going through these styles in particular, I noticed my primary style is approval and my backup style is conventional style. In the LSI index, “The Approval scale measures our need to be accepted by others to increase or sustain our feelings of self-worth. While the desire to be approved of is natural, problems occur when approval-seeking becomes a need, and ultimately our standard way of interacting with others.” This means I need people to approve my lifestyle. I try so hard for people to impress people with my personality and character, but sometimes it’s not enough. This style is categorized as having low self-esteem, an over concern with wanting to be liked as well as complications with conflict and confrontation. In this case, I am the type of person who tries very hard to be liked by others. Sometimes it can backfire because I show a persona of myself to people where I will act like someone I am not so that they accept me. In this world we live in, it’s a dog eat dog world where people don’t care about your feelings. They will do anything to get to the top of ladder. Personally, I am the type of person who truly feels better when......

In this sim, what variables are you seeing? Write the formula below, and indicate the units used to measure each one. 2. Try increasing the resistivity of the resistor, . How does this change the “look” of the resistor? Describe how that relates to the formula you just wrote (direct, indirect relationships, etc.). What happens to the value of “R” (Resistance)? Is this something that can be changed in a resistor that you would buy in a store to use in a circuit? 3. If you increase the length (L) what happens to “R”? WHY? 4. If you increase the area (A) of the resistor. What changes? WHY? 5. Write a summary about the different relationships you looked at in the properties and measurements of a resistor. “Ohm’s Law”: In this sim, vary the values of Resistance (R), Current (I) and Voltage (V). 1. What are three different combinations of I and R which get a voltage of 6.0 Volts? 2. Describe the relationship between I and R. Why is this? 3. What would happen if you could decrease the resistance to 0? Explain....

Me, I and Myself

...Me, I and myself I always ask myself: is it me, when I do something; could I do it better this time or did I do it for myself. I have time to think about these things while working. I work as a photographer and this job gives me a chance to express myself. It helps me even to understand some things better, because at first view I see things one’s way but after a while a see them completely different. The job gives me even the freedom to choose what to shoot and so the theme of my pictures often responds to my mood at that day. Or I can take pictures that will make me feel better than I do at that moment. Being a photographer is a job with so many various purposes – as many as the people are. Some photographers make only black and white pictures, other make colorful or extravagant or pictures that help in a science. The objective of the camera is like an eye of a man - everyone sees the world in a different way. But nobody can’t hide behind his work, even if he tries – it shows what we are. The most important thing for a picture to become a good one is to have its own feeling. When you a see a picture and it touches you, it rises in you some kind of feeling, that means that this capture was worth. Looking at some pictures make me think about many things and sometimes I can even change my point of view about something. While taking a picture I think about what’s my purpose for shooting exactly this or that. But after the picture is ready, it......

What does he regret the most? Does he drink to remember or to forget? 7. Don’t send pictures unless you want to. If he has to talk you into it, don’t do it. If you hesitate, don’t do it. ...Talley, SASI: I would like to find out more about the mental health condition PTSD(also own as Post Traumatic stress disorder) in the united states military. This condition is triggered by terrifying events. Either experiencing it or witnessing it. This condition is considered to be a relatively new diagnosis, as the name first appeared in 1980, the concept of the disorder has a very long history. That history has often been linked to the history of war, but the disorder has also been frequently described in civilian settings involving natural disasters, mass catastrophes, assault, rape, and serious accidental injuries. I would like to discover more on the disorder. After tragic events, many people gain this disorder. I would like to determine whether PTSD is curable. As a consequence of the complexity of this condition, my project will be a two-semester project. In my research paper, I will discuss the causes of the condition(PTSD), the US military's involvement in it, whether the condition can be cured or not, and what it has to do with civilians have to do with it. The research will come primarily from current periodicals, internet sources, interviews, and some historical texts. My Senior project committee will be composed of yourself (or the ASI), representative of the English Department, and representative of the Science Department. ...Emotions are one’s state of mind and natural responses, but scientific discourse has drifted to other meanings. It’s also evident that emotion senses on the meanings. I have experienced more positive emotions over the past four day. These emotions are characterized by happiness and positive expectations. These emotions are expectation of a brighter future. This because I had been informed a job opportunity had been secured on my behalf. This has been my dream since I was born. This was a dream come true because, I have always been thinking about the job. These positive emotions brought about anxiety in me thus I was not able to settle. I have also had negative emotions in the last four days. These emotions have generated negative thoughts in me. This can be as a result to a response of an expected trip that I was eager to be present. I could not believe my ears to hear that the trip had been cancelled due to the fact that one of our friends had lost their parents. The fact that I was not aware also brought about a negative emotion (Cassady & Eissa, 2009). Emotions are complex. According to some theories, they are a state of feeling that results in physical and psychological changes that influence our behavior. This can also be linked to the arousal of the nervous system with various states and strengths of arousal relating, apparently, to particular emotions. It’s also linked in some way to behavioral tendency. A similar description can be derived from the sociology....

...I have no single philosophy for life, but rather three philosophies. Each of which has different meaning. My three philosophies include the following: work hard, take pride in myself and the accomplishments that I make, and also everyone is on this planet for a reason. In the following paragraphs I will explain each of my three philosophies. From this, I hope that others will understand why I look at life the way that I do. The first of my three philosophies, to work hard, can be very easily explained. I feel that if money or a gift given to me by another person because I earned the reward is much more valued. In other words, knowing that I worked hard, did a good job, and deserve a reward makes me feel good inside. I also feel that all persons should have to work and support themselves. If a person doesn't wish to put forth any effort and work hard to support themselves, then that person deserves nothing. The next of my three philosophies is to take pride in myself and the accomplishments that I make. I have found that if I don't take pride in myself and what I do than I might as well give up on life. My reason for this being that no one else will think highly of me if I, myself, don't. I always set goals for myself before I begin a project or take part in an activity. My rule is to "Set my goals high, but obtainable," and although I may not always reach all of my goals that I have set, I should always be proud of what I have done. My final philosophy, everyone......

Me Myself and I by their senior year”. These kids are in danger of sexually transmitted diseases {STD}.There is also a big possibility for them to get pregnant, and this is why sex education should be taught to avoid from these things from happening. In sex education, students are also taught of abstinence. They are taught that they should only have sexual intercourse after they get married. In case the parents are always away from the children, sex education should be taught to them so that they would learn it from an educated and responsible adult instead of learning it from the media or from their friends. -- There will always be peers who would badly influence others -- “I remember my bus mates when i was in high-school they were only ages 8-10 , but the words that came out of their mouths were foul sex language, and i was really surprised, and the bus driver didn't even intend to lecture them.” “It is better for children to be informed earlier because they will still know about it when they grow up as they will be more exposed to it through their peers and the media.” People say that sex education teaches students about how sexual intercourse is done, but the truth is that sex education lets the students know about their consequences and the truth about sex. One may likely suffer emotional or mental depression which may lead to suicide.  Students are informed that it is only unity and procreation of married couples who are committed to each other. They are also informed that......
