To describe my leadership manifesto I will answer the following questions within the body of this my reflective thinking essay number one. The first question is what type of leader am I? This is a tough question to answer and probably could best be answered by the subordinates who work underneath my leadership style. However if I am forced to answer this question I would describe the type of leader I am as someone who takes into account all information, from leaders and subordinates alike, before making a final decision. I believe I do this because without all of the information how can I be sure I am making the right move. The second question I was asked to answer is what type of leadership style do I use? As described above I prefer to get all the information possible before making a decision. I usually do this by asking everybody impacted by the decision what they think we should do, or what should be done. By doing this I get all of the prospectives of a particular decision to ensure I see all sides of it. Don’t get me wrong even though I do this I still expect my decision to be followed even though not all of the people impacted agree with the decision. This course of leadership style I believe makes me a democratic/participative leader. The third question I was asked to answer to better describe my leadership manifesto is what type of Noncommissioned Officer am I? I believe as a Noncommissioned Officer I can be the go to guy for my supervisors as well as the airmen underneath me. I hope my supervisors can assign me tasks and not worry about whether they will be accomplished right. I also hope my subordinates feel free to approach me with any issues they may be having. The fourth question I was asked is what are my strengths? I believe my strengths are that people are able to come to me in order to get things accomplished. I also believe that my most…...

...Reflective essay: Intro: Vital signs are a fundamental component of nursing care and indicate the body’s ability to maintain blood flow, regulate temperature and regulate oxygenate the body tissue. Taking vital signs are essential in revealing any sudden changes in the body, which could potentially indicate clinical deterioration of the patient. As a first year student I was assigned to take a patients vital sighs while my peer videoed it. Throughout the video blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and temperature was recorded to check if everything was in normal range, while ensuring a comfortable environment, and communicating with the patient to build trust and confidence in my ability to make an accurate assessment and judgement on the results of her vital signs results. Para 1: hand wash Prior to taking the vital signs, I demonstrated and explained how to theorectically wash your hand and dry them, this was a social hand wash lasting between 15 – 30 seconds (Tollefson, 2010). A social hand wash- The removal of any jewellery is essential before undertaking Hand hygiene and wash and must occur * before and after shifts, * between patients, and when * dealing with any bodily fluids. The social hand wash ensures the prevention of cross contamination between both patients/ staff and the increase of bacteria dispersing from one patient to another. Para 2: blood pressure I made sure that the environment was comfortable for the patient. Providing......

...POLS 432 Dr. Robert Wood Xu Zhao 0886325 Reflective Essay During 16 weeks, I had a lot of fun in this POLS 432 class. I chose this course because it was major required. As an international student, I felt a little scared at the beginning of the semester since I know nothing about the American policy and I don’t have any friends in this class. It took me a while to adapt into this class style. First, we started from Shambaugh/Weinstein book, and the West Wing episodes. Shambaugh/Weinstein book is about introduction of the Art of policymaking process. From the web book description, it says Author Paul J. Weinstein Jr., who was Chief of Staff of the White House Domestic Policy Council during Clinton's administration; he brought a unique and valuable insider's view to the book. This book also provides some real life examples that helped me a lot in reading some of the concepts. For example, I had no idea of how to write a memo when Dr. Robert Wood introduced us different types of memos. After class, I went back home and read the format of a memo and examples related to that memo, I got the idea about what is a memo look like and how to write it. Indeed, I think the time I get to know about what was going on and what this course is about is right before spring break. Dr. Robert Wood was very thankful. The midterm study guide he provided for us helped me a lot about knowing the course materials, especially the White House staff members. I have learned a lot while I......

...REFLECTIVE ESSAY FOR MARKETING, INNOVATION AND DESIGN Reflective writing is an intricate process of inscription, what one learned from a particular area and how it would be useful in the future. In my reflection I would construct an assertive image of what exactly happened during the marketing module. Looking at the outcome of my reasons to pursue my MBA, my strengths, and the areas I want to improve on. The marketing, development and Innovations module has the learning and developing goals for me as I see a clear need to reintegrate into the learning environment, since I do not have a first degree, I was exempted because of my eight years of management experience. Being part of a working world and doing a MBA means that I would be faced with many challenges, personally, professionally and educationally. However, I embraced the challenge even at times it was difficult to juggle my commitments. Initially my thoughts were that marketing module was simply about sales, however, it was mainly about Innovation and design. From the first lecture, the main thing that attracted me towards marketing was the efficient teaching style of the Lecturer, practically the way of explanation, teaching methods and the learning tools that the lecturer used which were mainly power point slides, which was then emailed to the class. The Lecturer motivated and encouraged me, this factor has positively contributed to the amount of interest I formed towards the subject. The marketing module......

...REFLECTIVE ESSAY #2 The first week of the Officer Academy was very overwhelming and frustrating. There was a lot of information to obtain and just trying to get into the rhythm of a new environment was not easy. I would say the most frustrating areas were incorporating the Identify, Differentiate, Determine and Predict (IDDP) process into the case studies, time management, and trying to comprehend that it’s okay not to know and understand the information presented to us. First of all, trying to incorporate IDDP into the case studies seems more foreign than the Japanese language. We were told that it’s something we do automatically, but now need to break it down and show how it’s done. After one week and three case studies, it’s still not easy to do. It seemed like more than one lesson fit, but as the instructor states, it’s important to pay attention to the small things as well such as when discussing Direction, Adaptation, and Communication (DAC) that it is from the leader rather than the audience. Secondly, my time management skills while attending the Academy have not been the greatest. I’m local to Joint Base San Antonio, so I’m trying to balance home and school, even though I can pass off some of my duties to my husband it’s still hard to let go of the other things. While he is out, I’m trying to tidy the house, or prepare the dinner. When my son and husband are home I don’t like the feeling that I neglect them. It’s difficult but I do know in order to pass,......

...Reflective Essay Name Institution Date Having bestowed with the responsibility of Accountancy managerial in Southwest airlines, I was tasked with overlooking after all accounting operations in the organization. As an astute manager, I had to observe the contributions of the non–managerial employees as an important contribution that can facilitate the success of the organization. Thus, I took the necessary steps and measures to recognize and consider the efforts of all employees in the organization. This is one of the philosophies that drove me as an accountancy manager in the Southwest Airlines. My philosophy of management was partly derived from the Bolman and Deal philosophy where Harris had quoted a question on how much a manager shows the concern and sensitivity to people. He argues that the amount of consideration and sensitivity that he can show to his/her employees are directly proportional to the few grievances, less absenteeism and lower turnover in the organization ( Bolman & Deal, 2008). Organizational conflicts in the organization are inevitable and as a manager, I would address the competing interest to mitigate the destructiveness caused by the conflicts in the organization. In my managerial style, I try to build attentiveness in building and developing ties with both friend s and allies in order to ease conflict resolutions whenever it arises ( Bolman & Deal, 2008). The flow of communication is what I have given due attention as a manager. Not......

...REFLECTIVE ESSAY #1 1. I would be described as a very relaxed leader; someone who likes to have fun and enjoys leisure time. Some will describe me as a team player and compassionate whereas some will say I can be the life of the party. However, when mission is a priority, I expect for my subordinates to perform the task and produce results in a timely manner. 2. At times I can be difficult but only when challenged. For example, I tend to think more of the morale benefits as opposed to what benefits the mission. Though I can be outspoken and loyal, I can also be the worst follower. Learning the traits of an effective follower will help me portray great leadership skills thus perform my job well along with my subordinates and taking pride in our expertise. 3. I use a combination of country club to authoritarian leadership style. At times I will tell my troops to complete a task, no questions asked. Other times I will be in a lassie faire attitude and tell them to do whatever they want. Because of the inconsistencies of my leadership style, my troops are left confused and not knowing what to do. Therefore, I feel my leadership style is ineffective. It is my goal as an NCO to role model a great leader and NCOA has been a beneficial part of my improvement. 4. According to the classroom exercise, I am definitely an orange type of temperament. I don’t always set the right example because of my outspoken attitude towards leadership. My theory is to work hard......

Reflective Essay #1

...1. How would your subordinates describe you as a leader? I believe my Airmen would describe me as a compassionate, straightforward and trustworthy leader. I try not to sit in the office all day and always take the time to be involved with my airman with everyday tasks through guidance and mentorship. Currently I do not have any assigned subordinates that I immediately supervise. I have an open door policy and that has proven to be very effective with personal issues. 2. How would your supervisor describe your followership? My supervisor would describe me as an exceptional follower. I carry out tasks without question to get the job done. If there is uncertainty in the task, I ask questions to understand their views and offer my opinions. I believe that it is necessary to be involved to understand what needs to happen and to make the mission successful. 3. What leadership style do I use? Do you consider it to be effective or ineffective? Why? The hands off leadership approach best describes my leadership style. I believe that giving my younger Staff Sergeants the responsibility to analyze and determine the best route to accomplish the job is important. Doing so gives them the opportunity to grow as supervisors and future leaders. I only intervene in their decision making if it violates AFI’s and written policies. 4. How would you describe yourself as an NCO? I am a very easy going Non Commissioned Officer, but I am also very firm. I believe in working......

But there are two issues on me which are that a 20-year experience staff, Pat Taylor always does not wear safety glasses while Chris Johnson who is just distributed to my department because he has bad relationship with previous manager. ...Marcellus Bowie English 102 Reflective Essay Reflection English 102 has brought a really great point to me in life that no matter what class you are in you have to think creative. In the entire course there was nothing but writing. I can honestly say English 102 has taught me to be a better researcher and a better writer. The writing for me was super hard in the beginning of the course. I have never seen myself as a writer I suffer from an extreme case of writer’s block which causes me to give up without giving a shot at the work. The extra help has made me feel as writing will never shy away from you in life so just write. The annotated references played a big role throughout the course this semester. The role annotated references had been the whole outline of this course without the annotated I had nothing to write about. First I struggled with the concept of the references I realized that there wasn’t a research paper without the references. The references were one of the most time consuming aspect of the paper. The research question had to have a connection towards the refernces The difficulty I encountered in English 102 came about from the grasping of the material, the details in the rubric, and the guide lines. The biggest thing I had a problem with was staying on topic, and giving too much of my personal opinion in my writing. The structure of the class is made to stay on top of your independence of the reading and writing. During the course of the class......

...Reflective Essay I actually remember doing something similar to this my junior year in high school, the assignment was entitled “Me as a Writer.” How far have I truly come as a writer since then? Focusing on what this class has taught me, I can already say without any doubt that my writing has improved compared to what it was my first day of college. There were so many aspects of this class that positively influenced me as a writer. To name just a few: the discussion board, the assigned readings, and you as the instructor. The discussion board made me more open to criticism, it taught me that in order to become a good writer you must first learn to be a good communicator. You have to be able to communicate your ideas with others and listen to the ideas of others. It’s a sort of give and take process. Before, I was more closed minded on other people’s input on my work, I thought I could do just fine by myself for the most part. Now, I’m willing to listen to criticism and I understand how to use that criticism in order to better my writings. The readings were also super beneficial to my development as a writer. I learned so much about how to be an effective writer. I learned how to use certain techniques to improve the quality of my work. The readings allowed me to take a step back and see the art of writing as a whole, and then allowed me to focus in on specific characteristics of writing. For example, Kleine’s article taught me that I needed to become a more balanced......

Reflective Thinking Essay #1

...Reflective Essay One While I don’t often inquire about their feedback, I believe that my subordinates would view me as someone who is easily approachable and willing to offer time to listen to any issues or concerns they may have, and be capable to help them arrive at solutions. They would see me as that supervisor who would never ask them to take on any task that I wasn’t willing to do myself, and in turn, I would hope to earn their respect, trust and motivation to get the job done. My goal is for my subordinates to view me as that NCO that treats them like people, rather than talk to them in that condescending way that most of us remember coming up through the ranks. Finally, they would view me as the NCO that rarely fails to recognize their achievements and successes. My supervisor’s opinion of my followership would vary. While I have the enthusiasm, ability and commitment to learn from those above me, I don’t always display the confidence and self-reliance necessary in making critical decisions. I’m often asked by my supervisor, “How would you handle this if I weren’t here?” or “What would you do if you were running this shop?” My supervisor would tell me I need to step up, make important decisions to include unpopular ones, then be ready to accept the responsibility for any blow-back as a result. I don’t think I’m able to put my finger on any one specific type of leadership style that I employ. I think that different circumstances call for different......

Reflective Thinking Essay 1

...Your Leadership Manifesto 1. I believe my subordinates would describe me as easy going. One of my subordinates described me as a pacifist, filling more of a peacekeeping role in the work center yet still demanding. They see me as highly approachable and always available, ready to teach or provide guidance when asked. I think they also see me as very detail oriented because I’m so picky about the way they do things. 2. My supervisor would describe me as an effective follower with some room for improvement. He sees me as very eager to please and as someone who never wants to disappoint. I think he would say that I need to take ownership of leadership’s decisions in order to do a better job at promoting them. He would also like me to be more open with my suggestions and opinions and not afraid to object if necessary. He would also like me to seek feedback more often and be more accepting of change. 3. Reflecting on my time at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico, I feel that I have used more of a Management by Exception-Active leadership style. There are so many processes and programs that are broken in the work center that I have not taken the time to properly motivate and train the Airman unless they specifically ask for help. I demand excellence, and the Airmen are more intimidated into compliance than motivated to excel. As it turns out, this leadership style, while effective in getting things moving in the right direction, has not produced the results I would...

...Module 6 Reflective Essay Prior into taking this course, I always been confused growing up in what’s the difference between psychology and sociology. Without a doubt, this class has put a spin on what’s the difference. I knew a lot about the social world we lived in and how it affected our daily lives but never thought that there was so many ways it has done so. As I look at our daily living and the difference terms that is associated to sociology I have learn in this short period that the social side is a big circle that interacts with each other. But how do we learn to live in it and survive in it. If we are educating ourselves on the structure of our its affecting us daily, maybe our world won’t be so bad. As I mentioned in the tread, I think what caught my attention and put everything in a perspective was the primary and secondary groups. When you ask us to list what we belong too and how it affects our daily lives. That assignment allowed me to see what part I actually play in the social side of society and obvious it’s a pretty important side, whether I’m helping society or the one that can be causing the problems. I learned the importance of the two groups and how it affects me and the ones around me, the involvement in the community, the involvement among my appears. My insight and what and who I belong affects someone and or something everyday. How we look at it, is what’s important. But we as a society are not educated on our problems and issues and......

...Reflective Essay Two I have learned a lot from being at NCOA from the past week. II am going to take this vast knowledge back to my work center and hopefully I will be able to improve the work environment there. We covered a lot I am going to discuss my “aha” moment, what I have learned from individual projects, and what I could change about my leadership. My “aha” moment was when we covered the four lenses. Especially when we learned what the four colors mean. I realized that by me being and orange I am very outgoing but I am also a gold and green. The orange and the gold are opposites and the green I tend to ask a lot of questions and panic over small things. Based on this lesson I realize why me and my supervisor tend to not get along its cause he is a blue and I am an orange. He is a true blue too he wears his emotions on his shirt sleeve. He is also very much into family. What I have learned from individual projects are that I can apply the lessons learned here to the reflective essay from last week and what kind of leader I perceive myself to be. While writing that essay was hard for me cause it is really hard to judge yourself. Plus then you have to perceive how your subordinates perceive you. I tried to be biased in that and it worked out I found that I am not much different than the other NCO’s in my. What I could change about my leadership is how I approach diversity. I have to take in to account the temperament of people, I have been bad about......

...REFLECTIVE ESSAY #2 During the past weeks, I had two lessons stand out for me, suicide awareness and wingman concepts. I think with my current career field these two lessons play a massive part in our day to day work environment. With the long hours and hard work, we have lost several to suicide and all of them could have been prevented by proper use of the wingman concept. As for wingman concept, if it was used more often than it is now, we would have less suicides and even alcohol related instances through out the maintenance field. For me suicide is a very rough and heart felt topic to talk about. Even harder to listen too as it hits home very hard. I lost my father when I was two years old to a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head, and now less then a year ago my ex wife shot herself due to her feeling like a failure to be a good wife and mother. With the suicide awareness lesson and the plethora of information that is brought to light, it now allows me to further understand why people often choose suicide and more over the signs leading up to it. If I had this knowledge a year ago, I would have been able to possibly prevent her attempt to take her life. Looking back to the months leading up to her attempted suicide, she had shown several signs that I did not pick up on as I was oblivious and didn’t look for any of the signs that would lead up to the incident. After going through the lesson in class and doing the readings, I can say she showed the following signs:...
