Ethical Subjectivism

...idea that because there is no right and wrong actions, just personal preferences there is no such thing as morality. It also states that morals are just a personal preference So, any moral claim may be translated as a reporting of one’s feelings. The best example here in this type is “Stealing things from good friends is wrong” can be rewrite as “I disapprove of stealing things from good friends.” In this case, moral right or wrong is based on the individual’s opinion. In the other word, if two people have different opinions about a same moral questions. Then they might have two opposite ideas. For instance, Katie believes that lying is wrong because when people lied to her, they expect to treat him like a thing not a person. However, Samira thinks that lying is right due to some cases that people can save innocent lives by lying to a bunch of dangerous guys. I can say that both of them are right because they have their own evidence to approve their ideas. There is no certain evidence that moral rules exist. So, moral truth exists, but is not based on universal standards. Nobody can say that lying is absolutely right or wrong because people can have many so many evidences to approve either side right or wrong. As a result, personal feelings must provide the certain rules of moral truth. Like the example before, Katie’s moral truth is built on the respects and trusts between her friends and her; on the other hand, Samira's bases on saving innocent lives is the most important...

Bill O'Reilly's Interview Strategies

...this method of Bill’s interviewing. Conway, Grabe, and Grieves analyzed “The O’Reilly Factor” and found persuasive tactics used. This section of the paper will present these tactics that O’Reilly often uses and will provide an example of how he has used each one. The first tactic is name calling. O’Reilly will often give something, someone, or some group a bad label to make the audience reject that something without investigating it further for themselves ("Content Analysis of O'Reilly's Rhetoric Finds Spin to Be a 'factor'). An example of this was when O’Reilly called Samira Ibrahim an Anti-American. Miss Ibrahim was awarded the International Women of Courage Award by the State Department. O’Reilly was quite upset with this because it had come to his attention that she had been saying very negative things about the United States. While interviewing Bob Beckel on this matter, O’Reilly referred to Samira Ibrahim as an Anti-American five times (“Bill O'Reilly: The State Department Honors Anti Semite & Anti American”) This tactic puts an image in the viewer’s mind and the viewer will often believe the name calling as true. The next tactic found was glittering generalities. This is just the opposite of name calling ("Content Analysis of O'Reilly's Rhetoric Finds Spin to Be a 'factor'). Glittering generalities are just words that make something or someone look good. An example of O’Reilly using glittering generalities is when he called the coalition forces as......

Asian American Population Project

...students with a variety of various Asian ethnicities at a West Coast university. The results suggested a relationship between collective self-esteem, acculturation, and enculturation; those students who successfully participated in Asian and European cultural behavior possessed higher self-esteem. Additionally, the Asian American students’ success relates more closely to their adherence to Asian American norms as opposed to conformation to European American norms. These results propose some relation between acculturation, enculturation and mental health in Asian American students; however, other data suggested that a bilinear model should be used when analyzing acculturation and enculturation. Solberg, V. Scott, Choi, Keum-Hyeong, Ritsma, Samira, and Jolly, A.. (1994): “Asian-American College Students: It Is Time to Reach Out.” Journal of College Student Development. 35 296-301. This study assessed the types of support that Asian-American college students seek when they are faced with difficulties presented in a university setting. The study was performed at a large Midwestern university. Using a survey that focused the relationship between acculturation and help-seeking, Solberg, Choi, Ritsma, and Jolly found that both male (n=322) and female (n=274) Asian-American students most frequently used family and non-student friends as support sources. Those students possessing low identification with the majority group had no apparent problem seeking help; furthermore, they......

...Samira Brawner 03/07/2014 Major Assignment Stem Cell Research There are three stem cell procedures I agree with Adult stem cells, amniotic stem cells and induce pluripotent stem cells because they do not involve human embryos. Adult or somatic stem cells “exist throughout the body after embryonic development and are found inside of different types of tissue. These stem cells have been found in tissues such as the brain, bone marrow, blood, blood vessels, skeletal muscles, skin, and the liver. They remain in a quiescent or non-dividing state for years until activated by disease or tissue injury “(MNT, 2013).The benefits of Adult stem cell transplants (bone marrow transplants) have been used for over 40 years in successfully treating cancers such as leukemia, multiple myeloma and lymphomas, and research has now opened the doors to regenerative and reparative therapeutics. Adult stem cell treatment is widely used in the medical field and I will always support it. Amniotic stem cells “are multipotent stem cells of mesenchymal origin extracted from amniotic fluid. They are able to differentiate into various tissue type, such as skin, cartilage, cardiac tissue, nerves, muscle, and bone and have potential medical applications, especially in organ regeneration (MNT,2013) Induced pluripotent stem cells are adult cells that have been genetically reprogrammed to an embryonic stem cell–like state by being forced to express genes and......

Diary of Hrm

...steps that you once took. It all goes back to the day of the Farewell of HSC Batch '12. After the official announcement, the newly formed executive panel of year 2012-13 was practically beaming at each other, secretly making a promise of a great time that was to follow. Actually, everyone but Shorna. She was happily posing for photos when we literally had to beg her to join the team, when she decided to take mercy on us ... Because without her Graphics would have been meaningless. Alina, Nuzhat, Bushra, Parisa, Prianta, Samira, Tahsin, Shorna and I - the team was now officially complete. It was a good time that VELC gave us. Personally, I would say it was not just good, it was great. When you work in a team, it is not just work. You spend time with your team, you smile with them, you laugh with them and if you are lucky enough, you also cry buckets of happy tears with them and also on their shoulders. And in this scenario, I was very lucky. Prianta, Parisa, Samira, Shorna, Tahsin and Nuzhat – I have known them since forever. But this club gave me wonderful friends like Alina and Bushra too. How else would I have known chasing Bushra across the campus with a camera pointed at her would be so much fun? Just so you know, I never really posted those weird pictures. One of the main reasons VELC holds incredible sentimental value for us, is because it is the first club we came back to the campus for. Fresh out of VNC, we were only taking the first steps towards university. This......

2010 Review of Tootsie Roll Industries

...Industries, Inc., 2011). In 1905, Hirshfield realized that he would need more capital to promote and expand his candy business to meet demand. Within the year he merged his operations with a local candy manufacturer, Sterg & Staalberg. In 1917 the company was renamed to Sweets Company of America. Sweets Company of American registered on the New York Stock Exchange in 1922 (Victory Seed Company, 1998). Its SIC code is 2064 which is Candy & Other Confectionary Products. Its Ticker Symbol is TR. Hirshfield left the company in 1920 to start another candy venture called the Mells of Candy Corporation. This corporation went bankrupt in 1924. According to his obituary, On January 13, 1922 Hirshfield shot himself in a hotel and died the same day (Samira Kawash, 2010). While the economy was forcing many candy companies to suspend production during WWII, business was booming for Sweets Company of America. Tootsie Rolls were included in G.I. rations because of its “quick energy” properties and its ability to stay fresh for long periods of time. While the company’s involvement in the war effort resulted in gains on its balance sheet, it also contributed to the company’s enduring status as an American icon (St. James Press, 1996). In 1948, William B. Rubin becomes President of the Sweets Company of America. With his appointment he wanted to focus more on marketing and advertising. In 1950, he placed an advertisement in Life magazine that featured a beaming 18-year-old woman,......

...Laxman Diyali Professor: Samira Taheri English 1301 04/08/2016 Critical Analysis Essay Police brutality is a complex phenomenon, which has widespread effect on today’s society. The black community has been subjected of police brutality since many decades in the United States. In recent days, the law enforcement officers come under serious accusation of using excessive force often that leads to unjustifiable assaults, shooting and beating against the minor communities. In history, racist violence, police brutality, has been used to crush the black people voice to sphere power and privileges of the white people. For instance, the killing innocent young black man in McIntosh County and Ferguson were the two symbolic incidents that lead to mass protest against the law enforcement officers. The outrage in McIntosh and Ferguson were about something difficult to accept the systematic violation against black people largely by the while supremacy. The practice of police brutality has a strong effect on a main segment of black community. It is not a new issue; it has become more intensive recently due to some incidents that have occurred in the past few years that have been highly publicized. ...can dive for an hour nonstop. He plunges into the water and everyone sees that he is going to drown, so a sailor rescues his. Ahmad’s mother rushes to him and lets it be known that he cannot swim. Ahmad responds to his rescue with, “I was ready to stay underwater for an hour. It was your mistake. Why did you take me out?” (Rashid, 186), but this only served to confuse the people, as they could not be certain as to whether he was lying or telling the truth. A Kuwaiti story, The Return Of A Captive, is written by Hamad al-Hammand. The main character in the story is a woman names Samira, who, with her young son, it waiting for her husband to return from war. When Samira receives a letter telling her that her husband will be returning to her the next day, she is extremely happy, because this is the first she has known regarding her husband’s welfare. When the day arrives for her husband to return, Samira is unable to locate him. She learns that there are other men with the same name as her husband, so she is still unsure as to his whereabouts. Her emotion and desperation are summed up with, “The blood, the inhumanity, it was all there with her in the station, there in her husband’s absence, in the trills of joy that now sounded ugly and discordant in her ears” (al-Hamman, 226). In most of these stories, the male characters are in positions of power, whether real or perceived. My actual word count for this paper - 1,665 I am highly motivated, and I am committed to excellence. Marketers are now able to use tools such as social networking and email marketing to target prospective customers. Social media has made two-way communication easier between organization and customer and is proving valuable when trying to gain more insight into customer’s attitudes and perceptions.Years ago sales professionals had the majority of information, and we as consumers depended on sales professionals to inform and guide us in our decisions. In the past we needed professional sales people as they controlled the knowledge. Then around 1989 and beyond....the Internet changed everything and gave more power to the consumer. When the Internet began to go mainstream it opened the gates of the information super highway to the consumer in ways that had never been seen before. Then technology, computers, software and automation started taking hold and consumers had much more info at their fingertips to guide them, or at least point them in the right direction. Technological advances are enabling marketing professionals to use more specifically targeted digital channels to get their message across and email marketing is a low cost way to get your message directly to consumers. Digital marketing may be on the rise but print...

Weakening Families

...Samira Garner Sociology IP 4 Professor Smith American InterContinental University Online April 16, 2012 I agree with experts that weakening families are the cause of some of the problems society faces today. There isn’t enough discipline, morals and value put into the children anymore. Parents have become too lenient with their children and this is why things are getting worse for them as they grow up. Since the 1960s, women are more independent when it comes to finances, which has resulted in high tensions in marriages. When a marriage consists of emotional and physical abuse, it is best that it is dissolved for the children’s sake. This on the other had causes children to suffer in school and social relationships in the wake of going through a divorce. Parents bring conflicts into their parenting and their romantic lives, drudging up their childhood memories and too often putting their own needs before their kids. The emotional toll of divorce becomes feelings of loss, rage and mourning for everyone involved. It also often becomes parentification of a child eventually (Castelloe, 2011). According to Castelloe, “alloparenting” or collaborative nurturing is one more way to set back the rupture of families. Extended family members can play a role in children’s’ lives to help them learn to control themselves emotionally and teach them how to tolerate frustration and prolonged gratification. But when couples have children later in life, there is no extended......
