Personnel Management Research in Agribusiness (Executive Summary) One of the challenges faced by agribusinesses in the 21st century is the attraction, motivation, and retention of sufficient and qualified labor. However, personnel management research has mostly focused on other industries. Accordingly, agribusiness managers have little to rely on, when developing personnel policies and procedures. ...Defense (DoD), U.S. Government and all U.S. Foreign National Allies. The OFTSSC provides its customers with remote technical assistance by facilitating online access to supported system documentation, system software and offering live interaction with system subject matter experts (SMEs), via phone, online chat, and email. If a solution to a customer problem is not immediately available, OFTSSC personnel will actively work to obtain a solution by elevating customer issues to MCTSSA support engineers, system vendors, Marine Corps Systems Command program managers or other commercial or DoD customer support agencies. Help Desk Operations for the Operating Forces The OFTSSC from the start operated in an ad-hoc manner maintaining its mission capability with a support staff composed of contractors and civilian government analysts and a limited number of uniformed personnel. This odd mix of employees with identical goals as a mission end state has presented a management challenge that has hampered efficiency and responsiveness in providing the services as defined in the stated mission. This paper will address three persistent problems that exist within OFTSSC. First, the lack of a verifiable control measure to gauge analyst productivity and quantified work output. Staffing is also a source of issues that continue to impact OFTSSC’s ability to maintain its credibility as a reliable source of SME (Subject Matter Experts) and it has a continuing difficulty at retaining well......

Operations Management Term Paper

...Operations Management At times, managers (and even leaders) become too focused on the internal organization and develop ad hoc systems or processes based on isolated problems. Invariably, this slows down the product manufacture or service delivery to the customer but it covers the managers’ back sides. The manager should not be in the organization just for a soft ride. Sure, risk management is a necessary evil but it should never be an excuse for sub-par delivery because you can bet revenue and profit will suffer as a result. This is the opposite of elegant design. Here’s a test. When was the last time you visited your company website or store strictly as a customer? How was the experience? How many extra steps did you find in completing your transaction? What annoyed you? What impressed you? How were you treated? Did you feel human or like a loose nut on an assembly line? Ideas * At least monthly, test the major company services or products by walking through the maze to buy * Partner with a few customers to streamline the purchasing cycle Resist Excessive Department Specialization (silos) Someone once said, “Customer Service is not a department,” and yet the natural evolution in many companies can be where individual work areas become kingdoms to themselves. Everything within that department or division is about that department or division, not about the organization. In order to have elegant design, department silos must be taboo. Notice I said “silos.” It......

Leadership and Management Term Paper

...Management And Leadership Within the organizational structure of most businesses you will likely find management and leadership coexisting.  Commonly, the words are often substituted for on another.   However, each word has a distinctly different definition.   A manager does not necessarily make a good manager.   Management is defined as those individuals in an organization that have the authority and the responsibility to manage the organization through the control of production processes and ensuring that they operate efficiently and effectively.   Leadership is defined as the skills and ability to set future goals in accordance with the organizational goals and to communicate those goals to other employees in such a way that they voluntarily and harmoniously work together to accomplish those goals for the benefit of the organization.     In this paper I will differentiate between   management and leadership? Any organization needs to be managed, even a one-person company has to be managed.   A manager has four key responsibilities: 1) planning, 2) organizing, 3) leading, and 4) controlling.   Management can also be defined as the function that determines how the organization's human, financial, physical, informational, and technical resources are arranged and coordinated to perform tasks towards achievement of strategic goals.   Leadership implies that the manager has fundamental knowledge about critical processes.   A leader is focused on ensuring the creation of......

Personnel Management

...According to SS Kulkarni, executive member of the Indian National Shipowners' Association (Insa), the country is facing a shortage of about 1,000 officers and the problem will only get worse as Indian owners take delivery of newbuildings. Officials at Mercator Lines single out the availability of masters, chief engineers and first assistant engineers as particular problems. The shortage has now forced owners to consider recruiting foreign nationals to plug the gaps. After much persistence by owners and the Insa, the Indian government has approved the employment of foreign nationals on Indian-flag ships. Owners can now recruit up to two foreign nationals per ship as deck or engineering officers but the concessions come with conditions. Personnel from only 12 designated countries can work ships flying the Indian flag Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Malaysia, Romania, Russia, the United Kingdom and Ukraine. This is because training courses in these countries are recognised in India, say government officials. The guidelines, however, still do not allow a foreign national to become the master of an Indian-flag vessel. In addition, owners have to go through tedious bureaucratic procedures and paperwork to get clearances from several ministries before they can take on foreign recruits. So far, only Pratibha Shipping has done so, appointing a Russian national as a senior engineer. The Insa claims the 33% seafarers tax levied on employees......
