NOTE: This review is the fair and unbiased opinion of someone with extremely little knowledge of the Twilight series. I watched the movie with a few die hard fans who I talked to after the movie, and I will work some of their thoughts into the review.

Another much loved book series has been brought to life in the form of Twilight, which despite having nothing in common with the Harry Potter series, will undoubtedly draw comparisons because of the furor and craze surrounding it. The main difference between the two, however, is that the Harry Potter films are generally good and solid films. Twilight, despite having done a couple things right, is not.

As a story, I will admit, Twilight is very catchy and interesting. Now I see what all the hype is about. If I was a young girl, I would go nuts over this stuff too. It's not just a vampire and a human falling in love with each other, but because of the two leads, it's one of the best on screen romances of the decade. This, however, is severely hurt by the fact that Twilight boasts easily some of the worst writing and editing I've ever seen. Let's not forget about the horrid VFX and pasty makeup, either. It's one of the cheesiest films of the year, and can definitely be put in the category of "so bad it's ALMOST good". Yes, I just invented that category.

The 'allure' of the film appears to be the character played by Robert Pattinson, who ironically was previously known for his role in the Harry Potter series. Pattinson succeeded there and he more than succeeds again, as he more than fit the bill for what he needed to do with the character. Most actors would believe the only requirement of the character is to be good looking, but Pattinson takes it a step further and makes Edward Cullen very likable, trustworthy, and in the end, a good hero for the audience. Kristen Stewart is sort of the queen of not showing facial…...

Book Review of Twilight

...BOOK: TWILIGHT AUTHOR: Stephenie Meyer TWILIGHT The book that I choose to write review is Twilight. The book twilight is about the life of 17 years old girl, Bella Swan thattransfers to forks to live with her father. She is very simple and falls in love with Edward who turns out to be a vampire those affections with a vegetarian vampire family. Everything goes nicelyuntil other vampires come to fork and want to eat Bella. It’s a combination of a great love story with great action and suspense. The main idea of this story thoughts that the author would like to convey is human falling in true love with each other, sacrifice, physical isolation and fear. Firstly love is one of the main ideas of this book. As example, Isa Bella, who prefers to be known as Bella, is a 17 year old girl. She leaves Phoenix, Arizona, to go living with her father in Forks, Washington, in the ambition of giving her mother the chance to travel with her new husband. She feels attracted to Edward Cullen when she meets him in Forks High School. When she determines that he's a vampire, her attraction blooms into full-fledged first love. Originally, Edward just wanted to eat her, but insufficiently realizes eventually that in fact what he is feeling is true love, and after a few days they start dating. After two or three weeks, Bella is begging Edward to turn her into a vampire because of true love.......

... Twilight Summary Twilight begins with an unnamed narrator (whom we later find out is Bella) giving a brief account about how she is about to die at the hands of a hunter. She is dying in the place of someone she loves, and the narrator does not regret any of the choices that brought her to this point. The past few months have been extraordinary, and she can’t complain. Zip! Now we’re following the life of Isabella “Bella” Swan, our seventeen-year-old narrator. Bella is moving to Forks, Washington, to live with her dad. We later learn that she volunteered to do this so that she wouldn’t hold her mother back from spending more time with her mother’s new husband. Forks is isolated, cold, dreary, and wet, and Bella’s relationship with her dad is distant, since she was raised by her mother in Phoenix. Bella's new life is dull until she gets a glimpse of the Cullen family – five gorgeous, mesmerizing siblings who attend her high school. She learns they do not socialize with anyone but each other. One of the boys in particular, Edward, pays her close attention and seems to regard her with alarming hostility when she's forced to sit next to him in Biology class. The next day, he is absent from school. Bella continues to adapt to her new life in Forks. She gets a lot more attention from boys than she was used to in Phoenix. She makes several friends quickly. A few days later, Edward finally is back in school. Now he’s friendly to Bella. His mere presence excites her. That......

Summary: Grade 9 Up–Headstrong, sun-loving, 17-year-old Bella declines her mom's invitation to move to Florida, and instead reluctantly opts to move to her dad's cabin in the dreary, rainy town of Forks, WA. She becomes intrigued with Edward Cullen, a distant, stylish, and disarmingly handsome senior, who is also a vampire. When he reveals that his specific clan hunts wildlife instead of humans, Bella deduces that she is safe from his blood-sucking instincts and therefore free to fall hopelessly in love with him. Meyer adds an eerie new twist to the mismatched, star-crossed lovers theme:......

Games at Twilight

...GAMES AT TWILIGHT BY ANITA DESAI **Games at twilight is the first collection of short stories published in 1978 by Anita Desai an Indian novelist who was born to a German mother and a Bengali businessman father. She is today a currently professor of Creative writing at the MIT. **In Games at twilight, we can find various themes such as family solidarity, individualism, social class, modernity, tradition. The characters portrayed are differents, we have children (Games at twilight), artists (Sale), women, employees or introverts, but the way she uses irony, satire and humour add a new dimension to her short stories. **Subject: Compare two or three short stories from the collection Games at Twilight Games at Twilight contains 11 short stories but I decided to compare 3 of the short stories which are A Devoted Son, Pigeons at Daybreak and Pineapple Cake. Pineapple Cake it is about the life of a mother realising the extent of her fall from social grace that becomes her preoccupation as she attends a wedding,in Pigeons at Daybreak,it is about the daily routine and the complex relationship of an old married couple and A Devoted Son is about a son who succeeded in life and devoted himself to his father who became ill. **These three short stories seem to be very differents from one other but by going deeper into them we can find some similarities which are explored, described in different ways.It is not possible to divide in two parts such as in first part we will see the common......

Harry Potter vs. Twilight

...and the Deathly Hallows vs. Twilight Obviously thousands of people around the world have either read Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling, or both; but not everyone has noticed the similarities and differences between the two. Both franchises remain very successful, and there is a question; “Is Stephenie Meyer the next J.K. Rowling?” The novels are extremely well-known and of the fantasy genre, but have numerous differences, from themes and content to writing style and structure. The books are of the same genre and have related themes, but have attracted a vast difference in readers. While similar in many aspects, the two novels bare many differences as well. Twilight can be summarized as a romance, fantasy novel about a girl, Bella, who moves to a new town and ends up falling in love with a vampire named Edward, while Harry Potter is the tale of a boy who lives with horrid relatives and finds out he’s actually a famous wizard in a secret, magical world unknown to non-magic folk, also known as “muggles”. One of the few similarities the two books have in plot is that there is a hidden world of magic or fantastical creatures concealed from the rest of humanity. An equally important difference is that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a complex tale in which minor characters and small objects have just as big an impact on the plot as the main characters and major events, whereas Twilight is simplistic with no......

The Twilight Samurai Film Review

...Catherine Rios 3-2-14 Asian Civilizations In the film, The Twilight Samurai, Yoji Yamada reconstructs an ancient Japanese village by the characters demonstration of the same values and customs of the samurai, two other factors that help pull off the illusion of the time period are the architecture and economy. Seibei is nicknamed ‘The Twilight Samurai’ because he is a samurai and every night he returns home from work at twilight he isn’t like the other people he works with who go out after work. The Twilight Samurai is the love story of a low ranked samurai, Seibei, who rises to defeat not only a traitor, but the person who Seibei may later become. Of the many themes in The Twilight Samurai is light. When Seibei is sent to a fight to the death with Tanaka you see Seibei in the light and Tanaka in the dark. Seibei is a good person he always puts his daughters needs before his own and is an honest man. Once Seibei’s wife dies he does all he can to make sure he is always there for his daughters by returning every night at twilight and this is how he acquires the name of ‘The Twilight Samurai.’ Tanaka is a man who has been running his whole life and this has literally driven him to insanity. After Seibei has entered the house Tanaka is hiding in they both sit down and drink tea and Tanaka tells Seibei about his life. He tells Seibei how he used to be just like Seibei and he tries to scare Seibei into letting him go by seeing what the people who give them their orders have......

Review of Twilight

...Plot 1923 Twilight is a classic love story, but the author has written it in an interesting twist between love and fantasy. I wouldn’t say that the story is original but the way the author, Stephanie Meyer explains things in it makes it special. If I’d put this book in a shelf at the library I wouldn’t really be able to decide where it should be, if it should be in the shelf of fantasy books or in the shelf in the category of love stories. Personally I’m not a big fan of fantasy books but I Twilight has got “the best of both worlds” without that’s getting out of hand. These books in the series are all written from Bella’s perspective except some parts where you can read it from Jacob’s, which I think that it makes it extra interesting. Setting The book takes place in Forks what is a small town in Washington, United States and when you read the book you’ll understand it. In Forks the population is just over 3000. It’s often raining and barely sunshine, even in summer time. The author Stephanie Meyer describes it well in the book and there’s also a reason why the books takes place there. In the book they say that vampires can’t be shown in sunshine without people would understand they’re different, because when they do their skin gets shiny, just as sparkling glitter. Characters In this book there are three main characters, Bella, Edward and Jacob. Bella is an ordinary teenage girl how falls in unconditionally in love with the boy in her school, Edward who is a......

Twilight 1992

...“Twilight 1992” by Anna Deavere Smith tells the story about the mayhem that ensued in Los Angeles after the Rodney King verdict. According to Wikipedia, the riots and violence broke out in L.A. for three continuously because, out of the four officers, who were involved in allegedly beating Rodney King, only one of them was found guilty of using excessive force and the others were cleared of all charges. This had a great impact on the citizens of L.A. “Twilight 1992” is a series of monologue which is based on the interview Smith conducted with different individuals who were involved in the L.A. riot. Among them, Rudy Salas, Stanley K. Sheinbaum and Jason Sandford intrigue me the most. In “Twilight” Rudy Salas, Sr. the Mexican sculptor and painter seem almost consumed with hatred towards white police officers. Because of his Mexican heredity he says he was called inferior in school by the “nice white teachers” (2). No wonder he called them “the enemy”. Even so he doesn’t exactly hate them. But rather he says he has “an insane hatred for white policemen” (Smith 3). That is because of the fact that he was beaten and turned deaf by four cops when he was a teenager. He was kicked in the head and his eardrums were fractured. Here Salas contradicts himself by saying “I don’t like to hate, the way my uncle Abraham told me that to hate is to waste energy and you mess with the man upstairs” (Smith 3). But then again he can’t deny how he feels towards white policemen. Rudy Salas, Sr...

La Twilight

...listeners that there had been an insurrection in Los Angeles before the Rodney King disturbance and that it had resulted from police brutality. She reminded them of the Kerner Commission report issued after that insurrection and how the report discussed the ills of society, institutionalized racism, lack of services and the lack of government response to people. Twilight: “So I remember hiding behind this collar for protection,” he states sadly a minister at Westwood Presbyterian Church. He wore it for protection because he was afraid someone would mistake him for a Korean shop owner. He is disappointed in himself because he knows this is not an appropriate reason for a minister to wear his collar. He stood out, and he stopped wearing that collar, and realized “if there’s any protection he needed its whatever love he has in his heart to share with people that proved to be enough.” “This twilight moment is an in-between moment, a moment of dusk.”Homi Bhabha starts off with. Twilight challenges us to be aware of how we project ourselves into a situation and how we are part of an event. We have to react to an event in twilight in a more interpretive and creative way, seeing boundaries in a much more faded matter. Justice: “How can you change things in this country? Its is impossible.” Lucia begins. That is always a question, and in school asking yourself, how can such a young person make a change? She admits that in the process of change some people died. She had a......

...look away from his face to see them. My mother's arms were the first to find me, her tear-streaked face the first thing I saw when I finally tore my eyes unwillingly from Edward. And then I was handed through the crowd, passed from embrace to embrace, only vaguely aware of who held me, my attention centered on Edward's hand clutched tightly in my own. I did recognize the difference between the soft, warm hugs of my human friends and the gentle, cool embraces of my new family. One scorching hug stood out from all the others – Seth Clearwater had braved the throng of vampires to stand in for my lost werewolf friend. 4. GESTURE The wedding flowed into the reception party smoothly – proof of Alice's flawless planning. It was just twilight over the river; the ceremony had lasted exactly the right amount of time, allowing the sun to set behind the trees. The lights in the trees glimmered as Edward led me through the glass back doors, making the white flowers glow. There were another ten thousand flowers out here, serving as a fragrant, airy tent over the dance floor set up on the grass under two of the ancient cedars. Things slowed down, relaxed as the mellow August evening surrounded us. The little crowd spread out under the soft shine of the twinkle lights, and we were greeted again by the friends we'd just embraced. There was time to talk now, to laugh. "Congrats, guys," Seth Clearwater told us, ducking his head under the edge of a flower garland. His......

...Twilight People that are compose of students, high educated, house wife, read the book s and novels first, and then go out to see the movies just to be able to put an image on what they had already imagine by reading the book. I personally have not read any of these books or novels in relation to the twilight saga, and not even watch any of the movies. However, curiosity has taken over me because I see so much propaganda about this new movie the Breaking Dawn that I have decided that in order to be able to see this movie that many are talking about I needed to get familiar with the whole drama from the beginning. That’s how I get to Twilight the very first movie, one of the reason why I didn’t have interest of the movie was because being a fictions movie, the setting is not that appealing well I guess we are talking about vampire and they can’t be in the light, so I guess it is not appealing to me watching movie with dark backgrounds, I guess living in Washington state is not either a place to be if you are a happy outgoing person they said if you want to be depress move to the west coast. The movie takes place in a small town called Forks in the state of Washington which claim to have populations of 3,120. The town seems to be very heartwarming where everyone knows each other and good things are the only thing that happens. Bella which is the star of the movies decides to move there with her dad whom happen to be the chief of police in the town she starts attending......

Harry and Twilight

...There is a new war happening all over the world, but it is not world war three. It is a war that is waging between the fans of two extremely popular book series that have also made their way to the big screen and in to our homes. The fans of the Harry potter series and the fans of The Twilight Saga are feuding over which one is better. I have seen words thrown back and forth on social media sites such as facebook and twitter that you would think would belong to people arguing over some important political issue or something along those lines. Harry Potter and Twilight are two of the biggest selling franchises and should both be treated equally by the fans of either. Harry Potter is a seven book series written by author J.K. Rowling that takes place in Europe, in a magical fantasy version of today’s reality. The series targets older children and young adults, but has grown into a phenomenal fad that has fans from one to one hundred. The story follows a young boy, Harry Potter, throughout his years at a school for witchcraft and wizardry. The story line has ups and downs, twists and turns and details that bring the world of Harry Potter to life right in front of your eyes. The Twilight Saga is a four book series written by author Stephanie Meyer that takes place in Forks, Washington. This series targets a little older audience than Harry Potter does, reaching out to teenage readers and older. While the fan base for this series might not reach as young of a crowd, it......
