On Red Hat, the sudo command is not enabled by default, and you’ll need to enable it. To do this, you need to use a command called visudo to edit the sudo command’s configu- ration file, /etc/sudoers. To do this, you need to log on as the root user and run the visudo command.
# visudo
As you can see from the # command prompt, you’re logging in as the root user and you’re executing the visudo command. This opens an editing application that looks much like the vi or vim editor. Inside this file is the following line:
# %wheel ALL=(ALL) ALL

You need to uncomment the line and write and quit the file using the same commands you would with vim by typing the colon character, :, and w and q followed by Enter, or :wq. This enables any member of a group called wheel to use the sudo command. You can then add a user to the wheel group like so:
# usermod –G wheel ataylor
Again, you specify the group, wheel, with the -G option and the name of the user you want to add to the group last. Now the ataylor user can make use of the sudo command.
Some useradd Command-Line Options
Option Description
-c Add a description of the user
-d homedir The user’s home directory
-m Create the user’s home directory
-M Do not create the user’s home directory (Red Hat only)
-s shell Specify the shell the user will use

User Default Settings
Your new user will also be created with a variety of defaults (e.g., the setting for the you can display the current defaults using the following command:
$ sudo /usr/sbin/useradd…...

Differences Between Ubuntu and Fedora Linux Operating Systems

...Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distribution, Fedora is the fourth most popular. Fedora is based on Red Hat Linux and uses the RPM package manager while Ubuntu is based on Debian and uses APT. Both distributions release a new version every 6 months but there's a difference in their long term support models, Ubuntu offers support for 18 months after a version is released and also releases long term support versions every two years that are supported for 5 years. Fedora offers a shorter support period of only 13 months. Fedora’s default desktop is GNOME 3.2.1 and requires 3D capable graphics cards. Ubuntu’s default desktop is unity, which is available in 2D and 3D and uses a standard GNOME based interface that is designed to be a universal interface for desktops, tablets and smartphones. Fedora is leaned more towards developers and testing software where as ubuntu is leaned more towards the average user and stable software. According to online surveys Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distribution. The latest version of Ubuntu was downloaded 81,063 from CNet. Fedora is now downloaded from its own website, an earlier edition saw 10,000 downloads in the first 24 hours after release. Different hardware can affect the comparative performance of Fedora and Ubuntu. Some benchmark tests suggest that Ubuntu boots faster while Fedora is faster to shut down. Fedora won more of these tests than Ubuntu, but many of these were practical ties in performance. Under Ubuntu, software management...

...UBUNTU! An Inspiring Story About an African Tradition of Teamwork and Collaboration By Dr. Bob Nelson and Dr. Stephen Lundin In Ubuntu!, the authors share the story of John Peterson, a new manager in the credit department at a major bigbox retailer, who is struggling in his job. The people under him are not working as well or effectively as they need to, and his department is falling behind in meeting its goals. His only solution is to take on more work himself, burning the midnight oil and coming in most weekends to pick up the slack and keep his department above water. When one of the employees stays behind to help him—a young man who came to America from a small village in Africa—he learns of the ancient wisdom and hidden power of the African philosophy of Ubuntu (the philosophy that considers the success of the group above that of the individual). Before long, it begins to change the way he thinks about the people he works with, about himself, and about how he runs his department and his life. Through the telling of John’s story, the authors reveal the core elements of the African philosophy of Ubuntu, as well as uncover its business applications that any manager or professional can apply. By the end of the story John has not only turned his department around with Ubuntu but the bigbox retailer has taken on the philosophy of Ubuntu as a corporate way of life. OB applies to Ubuntu in that they both focus on the individual, group and organization. The book and......

Ubuntu, Humanity to Others

...I decided to write my project on Ubuntu, which is a distro of Linux. Ubuntu |oǒ'boǒntoō|: Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning 'humanity to others'. It also means 'I am what I am because of who we all are'. The Ubuntu operating system brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the world of computers. (The Ubuntu Story) I chose Ubuntu because I have used it since 2009 and have loved it ever since then. I will be discussing the current distro which is 14.04, the next one will be 15.04 but 14.04 is the current stable version of Ubuntu or also often referred to as LTS or Long Term Support. The history of Ubuntu is quite short or at least 2004 kind of short. Mark Shuttleworth, from South Africa, started a company called Canonical which was created alongside Ubuntu. The purpose was to help it reach a wider market. They help governments and businesses the world over with migrations, management, and support for their Ubuntu deployments. They would work together with their partners, to ensure that Ubuntu runs reliably on every platform from the pc and the smartphone to the server and, crucially, the cloud. (Canonical) Ubuntu is part of a type of software referred to as open source, a development model promotes a universal access via a free license to a product's design or blueprint, and universal redistribution of that design or blueprint, including subsequent improvements to it by anyone. (Open source) The vision of Ubuntu is part social and part economic: free software, available to......

By referring to appendix, from figure 1to figure 10 is mentioning about Windows vs Ubuntu of the OS interface. From here, you will know the differences between Windows and Ubuntu. Nowadays there are a lot of applications provide cloud computing like Skydrive from Outlook, Google Drive, Dropbox, Youtube, Ubuntu One and etc. These applications are easy to use and most of the applications are free, hence it is friendly user. Users who use Ubuntu as Operating system, they can straight away download the Ubuntu One from Ubuntu website, install and then enjoy the cloud. Of course, users can access through website, desktop and mobile too. Meanwhile in Windows, windows do not provide default cloud computing services for users as Ubuntu does. Users have to get support from 3rd party applications like Google Drive. Once users register the Google......

Ubuntu Touch Cost Benefit Analysis

...Ubuntu Touch Cost Benefit Analysis After being tasked with finding the best phone to meet Eduboost’s various needs, it is my pleasure to present you with my findings. But before I get into this discussion on the particular phone that I have chosen, I would like to give some background on the criteria that was used to come to this decision. I considered the various needs of Eduboost, the 170 Eduboost members, the cell phone corporation I chose, as well as Eduboost’s donors, shareholders as well as the general public. I also took into consideration the savings, the future proofing, as well as the maintenance that the device would offer when we begin promoting literacy throughout the country of Melandria. With that being said, I have chosen the Ubuntu Touch as the official phone for Eduboost’s future projects. One of the factors I focused on in the beginning is how much each phone would cost. Due to the fact that our shareholders and donors have given us a set budget, I wanted to be certain that the phone we use was as practical and cost efficient as possible. According to the CNET, the Firefox OS is offered for $25 with a compatible smartphone. That is a huge difference in price when it is compared to the Ubuntu Touch, which is priced at $170 with a compatible smartphone. When factoring in the 170 Eduboost members, the total cost of Firefox OS phones would be $4,250 for the Eduboost; whereas, the total cost for Ubuntu Touch would be $11,900. Now while Firefox OS is offering......

How to Install Ubuntu

... How To Install Ubuntu Linux By: Iptisam “Sam” Petzold Brown Mackie College SSE0050 Due: March 22, 2016 How to Install Ubuntu Linux Ubuntu is a version of Linux created to be easy to use, especially for those who are new to Linux. It has a Linux kernel based on Debian and is distributed as a free and open source software, not to mention that it is one of the most popular distributions for the desktop and server. Ubuntu also runs on phones. Ubuntu offers a LiveCD environment that lets you run the operating system from a media without making any changes to your hard drives. This is a pretty cool feature because you can essentially test-drive the OS before you actually install it. Once you create a bootable USB installation media, you can plug it into any computer, boot into Ubuntu, and download any data on the usable/ data storage partition. Before using Linux, my suggestion is that you brush up on your familiarity working with commands in the command line, because Ubuntu primarily uses the command line for most everything… then good luck and enjoy! Required supplies: * Downloaded ISO image (derives its name from the group’s standard for optical disc file systems, ISO 9660) of Ubuntu * Universal Serial Bus (USB) Bootable Ubuntu Installation Media (Thumb Drive 2GB or larger) * A laptop running Windows7 (with partitioned hard drive). * ***Possibly one or all of these programs installed to help you achieve the......
